Bridge Bombed in Luq
A bomb exploded at 0900 local time on a bridge that links Luq, a district divided in half by Juba River, in southern Somalia's Gedo region, according to local residents.
“The explosion ripped off a section of the bridge and now movement between the two parts of the district will be a major concern,” said Yunis Jelle, a businessman in Luq.
Reliable sources in the region suggest that the bomb targeted the Transitional Federal Government (TFG) forces that now control Luq region.
Several injuries were reported.
Lately the al-Shabaab insurgent group has been launching assaults to recover land they lost to the TFG by launching deadly attacks in Dhobley, Garbaharey, and the Somali capital of Mogadishu.
