Dr Maxamed Saciid Samatar father of Somalia's diplomacy

Postby Awraadle » Thu Oct 20, 2011 2:06 pm

Dr. Maxamed Saciid Samatar (Gacaliye) was one of the cornerstones of the SYL, he has worked hard to strenghten Somalia's diplomacy with super-power countries. May allah give him jannatul-fardos amiin.

Before and after independence day before his death he worked hard for Somalia
Mohamed Said Samantar was born in Wardheer in the Ogadenia. While very young, he participated in the fight for his country’s independence. In 1949 he joined the Somali Youth League, a movement opposing the British occupation.

In 1960, M.S. Samantar joined the Somali Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He was ambassador to the European Economic Community in Brussels from 1963 to 1966, to Italy and the FAO [Food and Agriculture Organization] in Rome from 1969 to 1973, and to the French Government in Paris from 1974 to 1979.

He was appointed minister of state at the presidency in Mogadishu in 1979 and placed in charge of relations with the Western powers in a particularly touchy regional and international context involving the commitment of the USSR and Cuba on behalf of Ethiopia.

Gacaliye went to a clan village of his in Mudug once (he was Marehan/Wagardhac) and said bring me 100 boys. When they were brought to him, he said may you all be exchanged for 5 who can read. Basically telling them the power of education. He was a great man.
