Govt soldiers kill IDPs

Postby UlteriorMotive » Mon Oct 31, 2011 11:37 am

Two people were killed and two others injured on Monday when Somali government troops opened fire on displaced people at a food distribution center in Wadajir district, witnesses told Somalia Report.

“I have seen two dead women and two others who were injured,” Farah Hassan, a witness told Somalia Report. “Why do government soldiers shoot innocent civilians? They should be brought to justice.”

Witnesses at Rajo Camp said the soldiers who killed the people were trying to protect food, but used live ammunitions rather sticks to drive people away.

The Somali government has promised to cut out such incidents, which have been far too numerous in recent months, but seems unable to bring its unruly troops into in line.
