Absolutely not. Puntland Oil should belong to Puntland only. Why should they (Puntlanders) share their hard won oil wealth other Somalis when those self-same other SOmalis have done NOTHING to help create the conditions for oil discovery? Did other Somalis help Puntland in creating peace and governance? No. In fact, they did the exact opposite by conspiring to bring down Puntland.

I hope if oil is discovered in Puntland that the proceeds from it stay in Puntland. I see a lot Hawiyes riven with jelously and envy. Good! Lets now convert that negative energy into positve energy by creating semblances of governance, law and order and peace in our degaans which contain more wealth than all other Somali degaans combined.

Puntland should get the largest share obviously. When federal government is formed, there should be a share given to the federal government for federal purposes and the local use

Turn Boosaaso into Dubai Insha'Allah

what hard work ? the hydrocarbons exist naturally in the ground and were formed over millions of years ago, what hard work ? Puntland is not even extracting the oil a group of foreign companies are going to do it, and they will take half the oil in all of puntland with them.

Wallahi Somalis have got to be the biggest morons on the planet.

There is no proven hydrocarbon reserves anywhere in Somalia. Since this is the case, those companies have set up exploratory wells to see if there is indeed oil. Exploratory wells are wells drilled to see whether there is any information that INDICATES there is oil, gas and other resources are there. This process takes months or even years. It may take "years" if those companies decide to explore some more and not lose hope. But considering other oil companies have came in the 80s and found nothing, they will probably not explore for years and waste their money.

They are not drilling for oil. They are drilling for information; that's the whole point of an exploratory well. Somalia has 0 proven reserves of oil. Let me say this again: those companies have drilled wells to prove that there is.

They are not drilling for oil and possibly won't do it for a few years (and that's only if they even found anything).

With that being said, good luck to the exploration and inshallah there is oil there.

Faraaxoos, in the last 20-30 years Somalis and especially Hawiye have been mired in ruinous competition where the prevailing attitude was "winner takes all." Now a new game is introduced into Somali's primative politics: build your own local administrations, guarantee political stability and security and the foreign firms will invest billions to extract natural resources. The whole of the Somali basin is awash with oil and gas. In fact oil companies were specifically discouraged from exploring Somalia for oil reserves because Somalia was seen as "gas prone.". In other words, Somalia was thought to have more gas than oil. There is proven 200 billion cubic feet of natural gas in Somalia around Benaadir area and there were actually 2 gas wells near Afgooye during S. Barre's regime. In the Somali Galbeed region of Ethiopa adjacent to Hiiraan and Bakool regions of SOmalia, some 4 Trillion Cubic Feet of gas have been discovered. The geography of Somalia is most similar so if oil and gas are discovered in one region it is save bet to expect in other regions. And that is land prospect offshore hold even greater oil and gas reserves.

This is a game changer. Somali politics will never be the same again. Hawiye are jealous and should be jealous because for the first time their stupidity and lack of vision has been exposed. What Maamuls have Hawiye created that can compete with Puntland? Even Habar Gidir can't create a single pan-HG administration just like their Majeerteen counterparts. Hawiye is complete and utter failure even by the dismal standards of Somalia.

fighter, you're right. This rig is only looking to see if there is oil not extracting oil but that is industry standard. You first conduct seismic, stratigraphy, paleogeography etc studies and if promising you dig. Digging is the only way to be sure. No one spends billions of dollars digging, searching, exploring, studying a region if there isn't promising signs. After all, these guys are pro and it is THEIR money that is on the line. And there is NO GOOD REASONS to believe there isn't any oil and gas in northern Somalia given that the region was once attached to Yemen which has over 10 billion barrels of proven oil reserves and counting.

But you are wrong on one account: Somalia does have proven hydrocarbons in the form of 200 billion cubic feet of natural gas in Benaadir and there were two wells where they were extracted before the civil war.
