Top foreigner commander killed in drone attack near Mogadishu
English.news.cn 2012-01-22 03:02:54

MOGADISHU, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- A senior foreign commander of the radical group of Al-Shabaab was killed in a drone attack on Saturday on the outskirts of the Somali capital Mogadishu, Al- Shabaab spokesman said.

Bilal Barjawi, a British passport holder of Lebanese extraction, was killed following a drone attack on the outskirts of the Somali capital Mogadishu, Ali Rageh, spokesman for Al-Shabaab said.

"Our brother was martyred by a drone plane. He was one of the top leaders of the Jihad in Somalia," Rageh said in a radio address following the killing of the one of the top foreign fighters along the Al-Qaeda linked Al-Shabaab.

Rageh said Barjawi was in his thirtieth and joined the group's fight against the Somali government and African Union peacekeepers since 2006 during the rule of much of south and centre of Somalia by Islamists.

This is the latest setback to face the militants group in Somalia which has already lost ground to a number of major towns launched by allied Somali government and AU peacekeepers in Mogadishu as well as Kenyan and Ethiopian troops in the south and west of the country respectively.

The group blamed the United States for carrying out the attack, saying the US government has previously targeted Al-Shabaab leaders. The U.S. has not so far commented on the incident.

The U.S. forces have killed a number of Al-Shabaab commanders including some foreign leaders of the radical group in the past.

Al-Shabaab spokesman said that the death of the senior Al- Shabaab commander will lead to the growth of the group's ranks. Hundreds of foreign fighters are known to fight along the ranks of Al-Shabaab militias in Somalia.

Coming into my country and causing problems, may you burn in hell for eternity!

Only foreigners who want to help Somalis and Somalia are welcome (ex: the great Turkish people).

Shawarmas like you who enter and cause problems will face the consequences

america is the good guy and this lebanese guy the bad guy ?
or maybe we're supposed to believe that the lebanase guy was a bad influence on the somalis who are otherwise well behaved . huh ?
which one is it ?
This guy was BREATHING in your country , somalis, EATING in your country , DRINKING in your country , SLEEPING in your country and if it is true was prolly killed by somebody sitting in Las Vegas or up state New York . AUN to the innocent people who may have been killed in this incident and may god have mercy on them.

USA govt waa evil but alshabab is the bigger evil, but in this case it is the lesser of two evils who happens to be US dowlaad.

Alshabab will be destroyed . Once they are destroyed, Somalia will be a functioning and peaceful country (inshallah) where sharia law will be the law of the land and the kitaab will be somalias constitution

Alshabab don't represent islam. Average somalis represent islam.

War caadiyaan ba , waddan aad qabsan kari waydo , sideed ugu tashan karta inaad ka taliso ? it just doesn't work .
I am against all foreign interference , point blank. Whether it is Kenyan, Ethiopian , American or French . It only works against the legitimacy of the people in country who already have none .

I am against foreign intervention too but when a alshabab member is killed or jailed, its a happy moment.

I can assure you Somalis in general back home say good riddance when a alshabab member is killed.

But ur right, foreign intervention is not the answer.

2 weeks ago it was " all the foreign fighters sailed north , dropped their kids in Somaliland and crossed to Yemen "
Obama is keeping his stats up as this is an election year and the pakistani shop is closed .
Anyway i have never had that much respect for this kind of warfare ,but hey, I understand whomever possesses these capabilities can also write a good story that goes along with it .
