Iran sends aid convoy to Somalia

The Islamic Republic of Iran has in the past weeks launched a massive food donation to the Somali drought affected persons in conjunction with Imam Khomeini Relief Organization and the Somali Red Crescent Society in Mogadishu.

Iranian Red Crescent society currently manages more than 21 internally displaced camps in Mogadishu and has also five clinics in several districts of the capital that treats more than 500 people on a daily basis. The clinic is run by professional physicians from Iran.

The Iranian Red Crescent and Imam Khomeini foundation issued on Sunday six trucks loaded with food aid to the Somali Disaster Management Agency with the aid set to be distributed to thousands of famine affected persons outside the capital Mogadishu.

Badbado camp, the largest displaced camp in Mogadishu currently hosts more than 9000 people according to the Somali Disaster Management Agency and the influx of the displaced persons caused a sharp rise in the food prices in Mogadishu.

Head of Iranian Red Crescent delegation in Somalia Sarem Rezaei says that the Islamic Republic will always standby and assist the Somali people at all times.

Imam Khomeini Relief foundation that opened offices in Mogadishu late last year has also initiated several workshops to improve the knowledge of the displaced persons so that they can have better working skills that will later improve their lives.

Somali Red Crescent society has also hailed Iran’s humanitarian aid to the people of Somalia as evident in the latest visit by the Somali Red Crescent head to Tehran. The Somali Red Crescent is thanking Iran for its considerable contribution in aiding Somalia during the 2011 famine.

Iran has contributed greatly to the Somali famine and has also vowed to assist stabilize Somalia and is also gearing up to host two conferences that will address the Somali crisis in the Somali capital in Mogadishu and the next phase scheduled for Tehran.

The United Nations has declared famine over in Somalia but the Islamic Republic of Iran is still on the forefront in assisting the millions of the drought affected persons in Somalia.
