The longer the west stays in afganistan the better for the muslim world. the simultaneous invasion of iraq and afganistan was a blessing in disguise because it has rekindled the concept of muslim nation/ummah and it started a mass debate about muslims answer to the concept of "nation state"

my hero Zbigniew Brzezinski said
The other major change in international affairs is that for the first time, in all of human history, mankind has been politically awakened. That is a total new reality – total new reality. It has not been so for most of human history until the last one hundred years. And in the course of the last one hundred years, the whole world has become politically awakened. And no matter where you go, politics is a matter of social engagement, and most people know what is generally going on –generally going on – in the world, and are consciously aware of global inequities, inequalities, lack of respect, exploitation. Mankind is now politically awakened and stirring.

The IMF calculations, produced ahead of the two-year anniversary of the crisis, underline the continually mounting cost. Most of the cash has been handed over by developed countries, for whom the bill has been $10.2 trillion, while developing countries have spent only $1.7 trillion ? the majority of which is in central bank liquidity support for their stuttering financial sectors.
oil production peaked in 2005 that was followed by financial crisis and now the west can`t come out recession because every gains they make is offset by high oil price so its like being on a endless hilly road and when you think the hills are finished another is in front of you, with same and predictable ups and downs.
Britain slides back into recession

Britain slipped back into recession at the start of this year, with economists concluding that even the most generous interpretation of official data released on Wednesday suggested the economy had flatlined for over a year.

US/UK have no interest to leave and never will. Hopefully Canada will, but I doubt it will be any time soon (5+ years). Mercs are making money, so I doubt security firms will ever want to leave either.

PS. Oil production has never "peaked".
