Was the war the best thing has ever happened to all Somalis?

Postby haxxor » Sat Sep 01, 2012 9:03 am

Islamically speaking, quite large portion of Somalis before the war was not so religious. Every time they went out the house, they think "I'm going to this shop and I need buy this so and so" but never think about Allah, death or even Islam. Now that's different because they think death and what will happen to them.

It also effects the diaspora, in the UK (Dunno about other countries) I keep hearing Imams constantly praising Somalis for bringing their deen to UK. Some go as far as to say Somalis were the reason of Islamic revival which unofficially happened past 10 years. They say in the past, there was so many people who are ignorant in their religion, and many mixed religion with the culture. This is quite obvious in recent TV sitcom called "Citizen Khan" and older film "East is East" (I haven't seen west is west tho) which are based in the past, about 1970-2000.

Now we see more debates and most of debates are valid and are based in Qur'an and ahadith. In the past this would have never happened, if debates even were to happen, it would be all hearsay - no evidence.

What would have happened if the war didn't exist? A large amount of us would be non-practising Muslims or even atheists. This is one of reasons why we are grateful.

I think the war has cost 500,000 lives, is it worth it?

Discuss.

It wasn't the civil war, I believe even without the civil war people would have become increasingly more religious. This doesn't only apply to Somalia but many other countries too

Alhamdullilah, with the removal of the Marxist atheist government came the revival of the Somali Islamic spirit. Women now dawn proper islamic attire and God is at the centre of our minds. We should thank Allah for putting us through fitan in order to cleanse our evil deeds.

During the so called revolution alchohol disterlleries were in use, brothels were legal and evil was widespread.

Let's not forget the thousands detained and brutalized by the despotic regime.

Now we have 99 percent of Somalis demanding shariah.

Alhamdullilah!

War is the worst thing that happened to us, yes the situation might have made us more religious but at the same time we are scattered all over the world without home and our country takes the most failed country title in the world every year. You can't even say your from Somalia without someone mentioning pirates, terrorism, famine, genocide, war lords and almost so many other negative things.

War brought religion divide and untrust from ordinary people with religious leaders. In the name of religion (islam) some men had mis used it to keep power overmany and killed thousands in process.

Facts

1. We had more respect for our islamic clerks Sheiks

2. We dispute on most issues and we dont follow one sect.

3. there is more sects in somalia then ever befor.

4.We are much more religously intolorant then befor

5. We dont trust wadadas anymore because good half of them are two faced and are agents of outsiders....

Only Stupid Somalis are thinking that it was the war that caused that Somalis became more religious even-though it didn't change that rapidly but still i will give you the benefit of the doubt. islamism is just rising more the past two decade just like the rest of the world. The same as sudan islamism is rising in sudan the past two decades before that it was not the case the Sudanis were drinking grape khamri.

Somalis have been displaced their passport is worth nothing they have no embassies in the modern world they have no real government they are plagued by famine and drought. It has killed so many innocent peoples do you think all the dead victims would've agreed that they were sacrificed so that some other Somalis could be better muslims and they were send to their graves.

Stupid people think war is good

War only destroys

Why have war when u can make love.

Seeing from comments, probably it wasn't worth it at expense of 500k people. The title is little bit exaggerated anyways.

Brotherhood? That happened after short fighting/war?

But if you're talking about before that, then there's still quite lot of non-practising Muslims living in Egypt when compared to Somalia before the war.

AND there's still problems with rampant homosexuality and apparently it's common to men to hit on females especially western ones when in Egypt.

1) We probably had more respect for islamic sheiks because they were glorified like celebrities. Anything comes out their mouth is truth, fact and not to be questioned.

2) We dispute in effort to indirectly "clean" the Islam from the other influences including the cultural one and see point #1 how can you dispute if you aren't allowed to question the sheiks?

3) Every group you see, there will be always an extreme left and right version of that group. This is what happened. As far as I know, there is and still one main sect in the Somalia and that's Sunni. If you're talking about sufis and salafis and things like that then it's not really a sect, it's method that you follow the Islam (Probably not sufis).

4) True.

5) and first line on your post) Many people misused the Islam, in simple world, shouldn't we see more Muslims leaving the Islam? This did opposite. Aside that, I agree with you on this one.
