A World Bank or I.M.F Official in power is very suspecious , these are the same guys who broke the somali farmers in the 1980's by flooding the somali market with USAID food , in 4 years there was no somali grain produced by farmers , many farmers left their farms and went in to the city , the somali currency was devalued . While advocating that austerity program fot eh people this dude had a monoply licene given to him by uncle-Afweyne to corner the market and supply millitary rations all by himself for the huge somali army and sugar, rice , and wheat and further crippled the somali farmers.

Thats my issue with him and his like, this dameer abgaal hijacked the thread into clannism.

PrinceDaadi,

Yes its , in the 1t980's , yes its corruption and cronyism.

No , he owned Shridoon Company Limited throughout the 1980's while still working at the WB and IMF. His company was given a monoply on supplying millitary rations throughout the somali republic . Also his company was one of the few to be given licence to imports sugar, wheat and rice in particular in all of the north. It was at the same time when Xoosh-kibray was given monopoly import licence.

Dude that is BS, Somalia never had such licence, you had the money you could import sugar, rice ect. My father used to import those products and sometimes together with Maxamed Dheere and Abdukar Cumar Cadaani.

You just don't know anything about 1980's somali politics , yes licence were given exclusivly to certain clan members of Afweyne for contracts, one been Xoosh, another been Dhoodi Meer company owned by Jaamac Green, contracts and leicence were always given to Daaroods in the 1980s that was the norm.

The Afweyne's government gave exclusive import licences to choose few, that is not something we have to argue now? everybody knows, the government also gave loans ppl who cant pay back which caused the banks to fail in the end.

X.playa: the reason why the corrupt government of MBS failed was its cronyism and favoritism which is hunting us till this day because every tribe wants to replicate what they saw in that government.

being said, my worry is not that he was involved with those things u mention but he is a NGO man though he claimed to be businessman in Kenya which no body knows it.

its a very legitimate concern because if he was working for the IMF/World Bank, then he definitely shares an opinion that Somalia should stay privatized and food will have to always be imported when there are valleys and farms that can feed the whole country many times over...

I dont understand the relationshp b/w privatization and food importation? Somalia will have a free market economy which actually encourages commercial farming, all government needs to do is to support local commercial farming while discouraging food importation through tax and non tax barriers.

government has business in a free market economy besides we have seen what happens when we tried hantiwadaag system.

btw this government will not have time for economy.

typical iidoor hypocrite.
They are forever going on about former regime officials, while their governments are full of them.
The longest serving "president" of s/l was a former nss officer.

X Playa why didn't you post the link of the article.

Looks like a review of 80's Somali economy and dealings with IMF/WB with unverified accusations about the PM.

The goverment will not and can't put tarrif, the entire idea behind the WB and IMF and AID and the rest is :

1- Open that country market, to sell western produced goods , heavly subsidized.

2- To privatize its entire wealth be it minerals or oil.

3- Creat a buffer class ( minority rich) to collaborate and enforce these principles and see themselves as part of the "free-market".

You are even way behind a 1930 somali nomadic poet who explained the sysem in 2 lines.

Calankii la taagaba waxbaa lagu cashuuraaye
Waar dawladuu waxay cunaan sow cuud nin kale maaha.

How do you think big-powerfull goverment survive if not eating whats yours, and thats why you have a WB prime minister.
