Dr. Abdiweli Mohamed Cali Gaas

Puntland will prosper under Abdiweli's leadership, not taking any accolades away from Faroole he has achieved a lot despite his shorcomings.
Puntland has prospered under Mudane Faroole, I am not for a change of leadership as it is tough political and economical times in Somalia today. We need to keep our tough guy Faroole to deal with the tough times ahead. Abdiweli needs to take the back-seat and chill for the next 5 years.
I agree with you Faroole is a stern, frugal politician and a strong man politician, but on the other hand Abdiweli is a well-educated diplomat who is in his prime. I think Abdiweli has all the qualities Puntland needs at the moment he's already been through the fire as well.

Puntland internal politics is far more complex and much more dangerous than anywhere else in Somalia. Taking up Puntland leadership is no easy task, and staying on and being approved for it takes the likes of A/Y iyo Faroole. Abdiwali is not ready and to get him ready will take a good year, millions of dollars and 100% backing from different sub-clan heavyweights in politics and war if necessary. I am pretty sure he is not ready for all of that.

My preferred candidate when faroole leaves (after his one year extension) is Abdulqaadir Abdi Hashi. He is one of the bright stars for this current admin and has forged great relations with the international community.

I like Abdulqaadir Abdi Hashi too, and would not mind seeing him as President of Puntland or Somalia for that matter one day. :som:
