178 MPs Reject Confidence Vote for 'Incomplete Cabinet'

Postby oxymoron » Sat Nov 10, 2012 1:32 am

Mogadishu, Somalia — 178 Members of Parliament (MP) in the Somali Federal Parliament have rejected Prime Minister Abdi Farah Shirdon's incomplete Cabinet of Ministers, Garowe Online reports.

The 178 MPs wrote a statement to Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Osman Jawari to reject the incomplete list of Cabinet that was appointed on Monday.

The letter stated that it was a violation of the Somali Federal Constitution for Parliament to take a vote of confidence on the incomplete list of Cabinet.

Former Somali Constitution Minister in the Transitional Federal Government (TFG) Abdirahman Hoosh who now is an MP in the Federal government was part of the MPs who sent the letter to Speaker Jawari.

"For Parliament to accept an incomplete administration would be in violation of the Somali Federal Constitution, and that is unacceptable because the constitution was written to be adhered to," said MP Hoosh.

Speaker Jawari requested that Prime Minister Shirdon deliver the list of Cabinet officials to Parliament for confidence vote.

The letter has stirred controversy due to a possible further delay in assigning and ratifying Cabinet posts in the new Somali federal government.
