What we have learned from this new conflict is that France is in some deep shit (economically and militarily) and are loosing influence fast. These guys do not have drones, not enough cargo planes to carry their quipment, and now apparently they don't have the cash to fund their war. The Americans seem hesitant because this will surely add fuel to the region when white Europeans are spotted once again in the dark continent fighting indigenous communities. They wanted a more finacially stable approach, funding ECOWAS (much like AMISOM) and subsidize the war on terror that way (via cheap African soldiers). As France braced for a lengthy and possibly arduous conflict, Paris appealed for more logistical help from its allies and for financial support from the Gulf. President François Hollande used a visit to the United Arab Emirates to urge Gulf states to contribute cash to military and humanitarian operations in France's former colony.
A French minister, Alain Vidalies, complained logistical aid from other European countries had been "somewhat minimal… with some regrettable absences" – thought to be a reference to Germany.
