If Somaliland was place anyone wanted to settle all of the pro-Somaliland on this board would not be somewhere else in the world. Lol @ someone with means of travel would want to stay in a place whos kids are crossing perilous seas and Saharan deserts to get away from.
you should stop trying to impose your fantasies on others, and open your eyes.
Somaliland is a dirt poor shithole, just like somalia but it has stability and more important its our home.
My own father has been living there of the past 3 years, my brother for the last year lives and works there,
dozens of my cousins from the diaspora live there permanently.
My colleuge from work resigned and moved to hargiesa. we are the only somalis in our department and he is a network engineer.
he has set up an IT services business based in Somaliland and left a job that pays $10,000 a month tax free.
and im planning to follow in 2 years.
Allot of the Somalilanders here in SNET can share similar stories.

Thats all good and well.....but the long term prognosis aint looking too rosey.
S/l will continue to be a "shithole" while Somalia begins to slowly develop.

You must have seen the progress Xamar has made in the last 18 months.
Its surpassed what Hargeisa has achieved in ten years.

This is living proof of what a difference isolation and engagement can deliver for ordinary people.

No doubt Isaaqs are the most progressive Somalis and the pioneers as far as state building , but this move is what you expect form rag tag militia not from a state that aspire to be a country . Pretty juvenile move IMO

They`ve boxed themselves into a corner.
The opportunity to negotiate with a weak Somalia has passed.
They could have had anything accept seccession and failed to read the political tide.
Failed leadership....failed policy.

I believe if Egal (aun), was still around he would have seized the opportunity to redefine the union on S/l terms.

Massive aid is not something to boast of,

Gurey...... there is no harsher critic of the southerners than me.
However, the world powers have taken responsibility for Somalia and we can all see the results.

In the coming years you will see Xamar signing multi billion dollar deals for offshore oil/gas concessions.
There is a resource revenue sharing article in the constitution.
Do you really think s/l will be able to hold out at that point?

This is not fantasy...it will become reality soon.
Thats why everyman and his dog are in Somali waters and land.

yes yes , definatley.
what gives me heart is that the major stakeholder in the oil sector in Somaliland is Genel.
the same company that found and exports oil from Kurdistan.
now kurdistan is in a much much weaker position diplomatically than Somaliland, and they have no history of being a separate country,
they also have the bad luck of all bordeing countries opposing their recognition, so its impossible for them.

but genel told the iraqi government to fuck off, and continues to ignore them even after being sued.
The lawsuit is going nowhere, and all that the iraqis can do is sulk quietly in a corner.
The other companies in kurdistan have started to follow genels lead.

no tell me is Somalia stonger than iraq??????????????

money talks my friend, if there is oil, they will move heaven and earth to get it.

The legal basis, and I place emphasis on the legal part, of Gentel`s activities in Kurdistan is the Federal Iraqi constitution.
I think you know where I`m going with this.

Furthermore, all indications are of huge offshore deposits. This is the target of the oil majors.

Federal Iraqi constitution????????
did you read the damn thing?
The oil ministry in Baghdad is the only legal party that can have contracts with foriegn oil companies and is also the only one to authorize exports.

This federal constitution is more related to Puntlands situation than Somaliland.

Somalia is the the recognised legal authority for Somalia.
No oil major in their right mind will invest in s/l without going through Xamar.
Try to deal within the realms of reality.
