somali govt changes its position on AMISOMkenya

Postby sahal80 » Thu Jul 25, 2013 8:01 am

The UN envoy for somalia nicholas kay has been busy in the last two weeks between nairobi and mogadisho and has done huge efforts to bring the two sides closer to eachother so there can be a solution

The AU envoy for somalia annadif was too busy from his side betweem AMISOM and AU from one side and mogadisho and nairobi on the other side till they reached a compromise.

During these contacts, we have said it remains possible that the govt may change its position on the AMISOMkenya that is operating in kismayo

Now the somali ambassador to nairobi ali america has reportedly said in an interview with a local kenyan magazine that he represents somalia and there is no close date of KDF departure, they will stay in somalia as long the whole amisom is operating in there.

Last night a meeting was held between the somali president, the somali pm, UN envoy, AU envoy, amisom commanders including the KDF commander, representatives of the europian new deal delegation and IGAD. Rumors are saying the raaskambooni leader himself was in there secretly with the president and the pm who both come to agree last night to recognize his adminitration.

What is new is the UN and AU civilian monitoring staff that will operate in that region and other areas.

Economically, the new deal pushes ahead the reconciliation and now the news is saying that all the ruling wings have fully accepted the agreement that recognizes the kismayo administration wich was reached in the last weeks in addis and nairobi

Apparently there won't be a conference...he will lead his interim administration for one year followed by a free elections. It has to be all-inclusive and he has to reconcile with the other groups to reach a political settlement... The agreement strenghthens the govts presence economically and military-wise.

Away from the talks, there are other international and regional contacts between them, the govt and amisom and they will have a civilian UN and AU staff in kismayo.

A middle solution that politically let's the govts to do its job has been reached but still the kenyan interests will be there till somalia establishes its army forces in every region that can replace them.

Sahal80,

I think the Gov just wants a stake in the port, airport, etc. more than they actually have a problem with Madoobe. I don't think they have a problem with Madoobe or Kenya but just want some financial considerations.

Honestly, they have a national vision but they also have their own interests in kenya... they all met in there and don't like to clash with it but kenya had its own program so that is why...

Yeah locally/localy they are just interesting in that, that is why the ban on the charcoal...

I knew Hassan Sheikh would make a U-turn on his failed Kismayo policies.
He has climbed down from all his positions.

Sahal.... you can try to spin it which ever way you please, but the fact is Hassan Sheikh has lost all credibility. :D :som:
