I agree with you, it feels very safe. Burco always felt safe,I remember walking in the night with my cousin {female} in the pitch darkness and feeling soooo safe! SOmetimes I would go out on my own habeenkii. In the last couple of years though it has become more dangerous..England style muggings are happening over there, more and more youth have pistols and are robbing people for their mobiles etc. It's sad. No.1 reason why I won't even so much as set a toe in that God forsaken place. Our pathetic government needs to do more to protect women and children. Tear town those tents that offer little protection for starters and send everybody off to meeshii ay ka so qaxeen. At least their tribes would protect them and retaliate against the perpetrators until the government sorts out the mess that is Somalia.

We shouldn't politicize this unfortunate events but rape is part of the southern culture. For example doing the Kacaan, the Darood southerners raped more than 60,000 women and children in Somaliland if not more. When USC stormed the south, the USC had camps full of Darood and minority women to please USC militia men. Many Daroods told me personally of their horror stories of how they used to dig holes in the backyard to hide their girls.

When SNM liberated the north from the Darood led Kacaan, there was very few rape cases and those captured during the war were sent back to their original homes. The SNM even put the Hawiye on cargo planes because they were afraid to travel across Darood territory by land.

Rape is southern thing and what we see in the north today is all from those IDP from the south, corrupted kids from the Diaspora and few waqooyi teens who want to be gangsters. It is a combination of this and I believe Hargeisa government should isolate the southern IDP. They should be back to their camps by 4pm. Anyone caught after that should do serious free labor in Hargeisa.

If Waqooyis had me as their regional President, I would put all southern IDP men a radio frequency GPS. If a rape occurs anywhere near 5-10miles radius, I would have them in prison.

It is no secret that I am no fan of southern culture and Waqooyi ixtiraaf.
