http://sabahionline.com/en_GB/articles/ ... wsbrief-01Somali security forces have foiled more than 200 al-Shabaab attacks in Mogadishu in August with the help of a new undercover unit, Minister of Interior and National Security Abdikarim Hussein Guled said Saturday (September 14th).
"We have established an undercover unit deployed among various sectors of the public to gather credible information about the enemy and anyone else who threatens security," Guled told state-run Radio Mogadishu. He said the new unit started its work in July.
In August alone police received 330 leads, he said, 65% of which turned out credible information about imminent attacks that included murder attempts and bombings that authorities were able to prevent.
The minister vowed the government will continue to carryout security operations in order to improve Somalia's security situation and ensure public safety.
