Unlike Somaliland, Djibouti made the right decision when they opted to be their own country rather than unite with Somalia in 1978.
Image if Djibouti had chosen to unite with Somalia after their independence, today they would be facing a fate similar to that of Somaliland.
Djibouti would have been in the failed Somalia, and if they ever tried to withdraw from that failed union, they would have been called Somalidiid

His entire family was from SL, so obviously the fate of Somaliland after the union became an example of what could go wrong if Djibouti would join the Somali democratic republic and when the Somali government in 1977 proposed the idea of sending a governor from koonfur that would "rule" Djibouti until the unification process was completed made him realize the deception and that became the nail in the coffin.


Reer SL are far from Somalidiid. We took the first steps to unite the 5 Somali regions and we were back stabbed.

Lets not forget that Djibouti was where US raids into SOmalia were launched in 1993. Even EThiopia, Kenya refused to allow air raids from their territory unlike Djibouti.

Djibouti is in it for the money and influence it gets internationally and internally for Somalia. Djibouti should weild insignificant regional influence especially compared to Somalia, but because of our situation even little countries like it have influence over us.

As for Amisom, I do prefer them to be Somalis like the Djiboutians because of the cultural and language aspects.

AW..you're right they still maintain a huge US base there...but i think they have done more positives for Somalia then negatives. Since independence, they have maintained a positive relationship with every government in Somalia. When the MSB regime was carrying out its campaign in the North they opened their arms for the refugees and did not support Barre in his actions. Since 1991 they supported every peace process too.
