Kenyan contingent in Afmadow came under heavy assault

Postby Substance » Mon Dec 09, 2013 1:03 pm

Afmadow (RBC) Somali militant group Al Shabab has attacked a military base for the Kenyan contingent in Afmadow, Somalia’s Lower Jubba region on Sunday night, RBC Radio reports.

Locals confirmed that they have heard heavy bombardment followed by fierce gun shooting in the midnight of Sunday when the militant group fighters attacked the Kenyan army base in Afmadow.

The locals said the both sides exchanged heavy weapons which ended within an hour.

Pro-Al Shabab website reported on monday morning that the militants stormed the army base of the KDF [Kenyan Defense Forces] and killed six soldiers.

The casualties if the attack could not be confirmed independently.

Contingents from Kenyan Sierra Leone army under the African Union Mission have taken three largest districts in the Southern Somalia region including the port town of Kismayo last year, but since then the joint army have been seeing heavy assaults from the militant group.

Alshabab are still threat. Yesterday another fighting erupted in Birta-dheer just 20 Km from Garboharay., and few days ago Sierra Leone was complaining about lack of salary, and their moral is too down.

Why don`t the Somali Army fight Al Shabaab?
They seem to be totally lost without Bantu command.
Where are all the socalled Generals, colonels etc?

Without doubt Hassan Sheikhs greatest failure....diverting military aid to his moryaan cousins, to terrorise the Shabelles.

Generally Somali army are voluntary men with no salary, bullets or even food.

But those who joined JL are doing better, they have morale, enough bullets and training, bulky of the army are in Kismayo, and waiting for reformation and instructions.

After completion of basic structural government of the state, they'll march towards Alshabab strong holds. .
