Geographically, Somalia means Raas Caseyr to Raas Kambooni. Somaliland and the territories that fall under Somaliland are not included.
why do you start somali history from colonial era?

are you like the african american negros whose history starts from slave ships?

Because the name of your country (Somalia) is a colonial legacy :pac:
what about the history before colonial era?

why lump up puntland/ jubbaland/ galmudug/ mogadishu/ bay&bakool land as somalia? did they somehow share history pre colonial times while somaliland was on their own?

and if somalia started at 1960 then somaliland was also part of it but you said geographically somalia is from raas casyr to raas kambooni, but again your basing this on colonial borders. another question is are dhulbahante closer to isaaq then to majerteen which they share daarood and harti with? therefore why on earth would you claim dhulbahate land as part of a country called "somaliland" your entire argument is based on colonial borders and people lumped together who share no lineage while diving those who do.

Ethiopia is an ancient greek word while Liberia is a Latin word that means land of the free. Hays ceebeyn :pac:

The Somali republic and the civilian government died in 1969.

Your speaking of some picture put up by someone who most likely got fat on ill gotten gains during afewynes reign. I'm talking about the Iidoor who owns your whole region forcing you to eat hyena.
In short keep living in yesterday and boli qaran. Today you a toilet cleaner in Xamar and if you don't behave like a guest will be thrown out. So keep pleasing your Hawiye masters.

We were discussing the etymology of the name Somalia and not colonial borders..

Who's claiming Dhulbahante land? Isaaq live in Sool and Sanaag aswell, so I dont know what you're talking about.

My argument is based on 2 countries that united in the 60's and today we're 2 seperate countries.

We're just waiting for international recognition. :stylin:

Aethiop thats the greek origin of Ethiopia. And Liber (latin) is the origin of Liberia.

Mongolia was never colonised too yet it used the latin suffix. Once again you fail.

oh and Yes the civilian government died in 1969 but the Somali republic didn't. A military goverment took the governance of the country and relablled the country the Somali democratic republic, in which fell in January 26th 1991.

The Somali Democratic Republic controlled all of Somalia under iron fist for 21 years. You can deny history but you cannot erase history ;)

Both Somaliland and Italian Somaliland were given independence by their colonial rulers, but British Somaliland existence was shortlived as it merged with Italian Somaliland. The Somali republic was declared after this union. Somali republic is not a former colonial state but Italian and British Somaliland are.

why do we say british-somaliland merged with italian-somaliland? why can't it be the other way around? italian-somaliland merged with british-somaliland? in the end of the day, both territories were never a country before colonialism therefore to say they were a country with the exact border the colonials made is ridiculously hilarious.

I think people perceive it that way because the newly created somali republic is pretty much an italian somaliland with more territories with the same capital, also clan wise italian somaliland dominated. Somaliland was also making concessons such as location of the capital.

Buuloy,

You have a hard time understanding my statements. Some countries have the Latin suffix because they choose to. Ethiopia is an example but for Somalia the case is different. It's a colonial legacy because thats the name the Italian colonialist called the land.

The Somali republic was synonymous with civilian government and therefore it's correct to say the Somali republic died in 69..

With independence came international recognition as a sovereign state so yes Somaliland and Somalia were two separate countries before unification.

the british came to a region that was not a country to begin with. it was a land settled by different clans that pretty much ruled themselves. so, you're telling me the british united them forcefully, created a government and then said i gave you guys independence? if so, the question stands, who speaks for who? does every clan has his own right for self-determination?

the same goes for french-somaliland and italian-somaliland.

If Somaliland is not important to you then why even bother to make a topic about them then. :-O
Where did I state that Somaliland is not important to me? Afcourse it is important to me, it is where 2 of my cousins settle in (Dhulbahante and Warsangali) and where my friendly clans reside in (Gadabuursi, Ciise, Fiqishini, Gabooye, Muse Dheriye, Yibir etc).

So excuse me I will make threads about it.
Ximan Xaarre, if Siyaad Barre was alive, do you think he would be pro-Ugandishu, or pro-Hargaisa ? I believe he would congratulate Somaliland and curse Ugandishu.

Anyone who truly believes in Somalinimo would do the same.
