KISMAYO, Somalia Jan.20, 2014 (Garowe Online)-The President of Somalia’s Jubaland administration Sheikh Ahmed Mohamed Islam (Madobe) has been inaugurated in the southern port city of Kismayo on Monday, Garowe Online reports.
Former Somalia Prime Minister Ali Mohamed Geddi, Federal Parliament Deputy speaker Jaylani Nur Ikar, Puntland Vice President Abdihakin Abdullahi Haji Omar Amay, United Nations envoy to Somalia Ambassador Nicholas Kay and the Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission for Somalia (SRCC), Mahamat Saleh Annadif witnessed the well organized inauguration ceremony at Jubaland presidential palace.
Hundreds of people gathered at the hall decorated with Somalia and Jubaland flags as President Madobe alongside cabinet ministers waved to the event participants.
Ambassador Kay congratulated in statement from his office President Madobe on his inauguration: ““I congratulate Leader Sheikh Ahmed Madobe Islan on the formal inauguration of the Interim Jubba Administration, as well as the appointed Deputy Leaders and Ministers. This is a milestone in the process of implementing the 27 August Addis Ababa Agreement”.
UN envoy commended Jubaland administration for properly implementing Addis Ababa agreement and called for the reintegration of armed militias.
Last week, the newly appointed cabinet members were sworn-in into the office. Ahmed Madobe became the leader of Kismayo Interim Administration and later was elected as Jubaland President in a huge convention which brought together 500 delegates on 15 May, 2013 in Kismayo.
Jubaland gained its recognition from Mogadishu-based federal Government after IGAD-brokered bilateral talks in August 2013 in the Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa.
