The federal government of Somalia (FGS) led by president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has failed many fronts, especially security. The recent attack on the presidential palace by resurgence group, Alshabab, has made a huge dent to the trust of the FGS by the Somali people and the international community as well.
The failures are usually created by the executive branch dominated and spearheaded by the president. It is clear that the president, with personal whims and petty interests, castrated government institutions while giving dictatorial orders.
In recent months, the president demanded the resignation of prime minister Abdi Farah Shirdon and parliament ousted the prime minister as the Parliament was in the pocket of the president.
Also, in recent months, Yusur Abrar, the governor of the central bank of Somalia fled to Europe and resigned amid corruption allegations at the top of FGS.
And according to the recent report by Somalia/Eritrea Monitoring Group, the president has armed both his clan and Alshabab. Consequently, president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud must resign for an honesty and competent leader to fill the presidential post to effectively deal with the pressing problems Somalia faces at this present time.
If the president hangs on to power, big international players such as United States, European Union and Turkey must send the message.
