Those who are arguing that Daarood benefited from Siyad Barre regime are clueless on Somali politics and history. Siyad Barre destroyed Darod politically in the interest of power and greediness. He destroyed Ogaaden by displacing them and driving them out of their cities in Jubbland and also putting their refugees from Ogadenia in hostile territories, he isolated Majeerteen and kept them on lid, and even with his own clan of Mareexaan, his administration neglected their traditional cities in Gedo which were some of the most undeveloped areas in terms of infrastructure. The biggest clan that benefited from the Siyad Barre administation in Somalia were Hawiye who owned over 80% of most businesses and infrastructures in Muqdisho.
As for Somali unity, Ethiopia and Kenya have created manageable mini-states in order to make sure that a strong Somali government to never emerge again. They have Puntland, Somaliland, and Jubbaland. And guess what, since Muqshisho is our capital and our heart, they would make sure that it is isolated from the rest of the country . So those making the stupid and the useless comments that the lack of Somali unity is the loss for ONLY Daarood are clueless and don't know what they are talking about.
Siyaad Barre at the end of the day neglected two of the most powerful clans in Somalia, the Isaaq and Majeerteen, very costly mistake. He also welcomed and nourished his enemies, the Hawiye, who eventually buried him. He should have fed the Isaaq and MJs and focked the Hawiye upside down, Somalia would have been peaceful by now
