Would Ethiopia agree on this land exchange ?

Postby GIJaamac » Fri May 23, 2014 11:45 am

No trolling, no emotional comments please. I need some clear political analysis.

My question is would Ethiopia agree on this deal if Mogadishu was to offer this tomorrow.
We give them puntland and they give us some parts of kilil5, oromia and southern nations. ( The sources of shabelle and Jubba river )

Gabre, sahal, gurey25

Your opinions are appreciated

Ethiopia main interest in the Somali peninsula stems from their need for sea port, they have that now in Somaliland, signing over a desert region which they already control by proxy is nothing but a joke.

back in the 70s, this deal if it had been proposed, they would certainly be more inclined in negotiating the terms at the very least, I would also support it one hundred percent and the Somali people would stand to gain from it as we would acquire the source of two vital rivers that supply us with drinking water, irrigation and potentially energy.

If only more hutus thought like this. :|

If Ethiopia ever breaks apart which might happen anytime soon then it would be Tigray taking their part and declaring independence and then the Somali region would follow and seek independence. No one would want to join the failed Somalia which its self is breaking apart. Shabelle river has a biyo xireen in Godey and expected to be build a dam that would serve the region's energy needs.

So why are they using Djbouti port if they have SL ? Proxy or not, Ethiopia is the most populated country in the world, which is landlocked. Puntland has over 1000 km of coastline eventhough it's desert. I don't think ethiopians will walk away from this kind of offer.

Ethiopia has rivers and green land in abundance while somalia has coastline in abundance. Somalia will not lose anything wlhi. And ethiopians would get the red sea and indian ocean at the same time. Their centuries long dream would become true.

I think every somali from south central would support my idea.

Ethiopia wouldnt willingly agree to this. Check the map how close those mountains are to addis ababa.
However if their nation disintegrate, those mountains needs to be brought under control by rer gedo.

Biyoxireen in Shabelle river ? Then why it floods in Hiiraan and SH/dhexe almost every year.

ps. Ethiopia is not going everywhere. Accept that.

Something like 99% of our drinking water comes from groundwater and Puntland has a large amount of groundwater. Not to forget in certain seasons with good irrigation system the land can be used for farming; places such as Nugaal is an example. There is also potential for large amount of oil and other natural resources that is valuable to Somalia.
Puntland also has sizable towns with infrastructure and relatively educated populace that can provide a tax base for any country in horn.
In addition it has nearly a 1/3 of the coastline providing ports to other lands. Another important factor is that it allows land access to other parts of Somalia.
Ethiopia does not have a port and the current deal with Djibouti is at very best temporarily as it relies on political stability between the two countries - not to forget it costs more for Ethiopia to use its port and supply its country. With port access in Bosaso Ethiopia will have free access to port.
I can only see how such a deal could immensely empower Ethiopia's position and strength. Considering Ethiopia and Somalia are eternal enemies it would be a bad deal.

War this nigga GiJaamac doesn't give a fock about your dhabayaco ass he sees you as a threat more than the xabashi and would do anything to eliminate you from claiming the dawaarsi money from the IC. The only thing that is keeping his folks from doing this is their powerless cats hiding behind the somali name and depending on shabab.

It's a Biyo xireen for irrigation but am sure when they're done with the Renaissance dam they will build one on the shabelle. Then you won't see much water considering the shablle doesn't contain that much water in Somalia and doesn't reach it's end near the jubba.
