Djibouti Will Deploy Battalion of Troops to Somalia by Year-End

Djibouti plans to deploy an additional battalion of troops to Somalia to bolster the existing 1,000-strong force it has in the war-torn country, Foreign Minister Mahamoud Ali Youssouf said.

The soldiers will help consolidate gains made by Djibouti’s armed forces in Somalia’s central Hiraan region, Youssouf said in an interview yesterday from the capital, Djibouti. Its troops have captured the districts of Buuloburde and large parts of Beledweyne from al-Qaeda-linked militants, he said.

“We need that strengthening,” Youssouf said by phone. “In a few weeks time, we should deploy 450 troops and then another 500 a couple of months later.”

Djiboutian forces are part of the 22,000-strong personnel under the command of the African Union that is battling an insurgency by al-Shabaab Islamist militants in Somalia. Djibouti is boosting its contribution to the multinational army after suspected members of the militia attacked a restaurant in Djibouti in May and killed a Turkish national and injured “several” other foreigners, according to Agence-France Presse. It was the first suicide bombing in the country’s history.

Djibouti has subsequently boosted security across the country, Youssouf said. The U.K. government warned last month that al-Shabaab plans to carry out further attacks in Djibouti, including Western interests. The country hosts the biggest U.S. military base in Africa at Camp Lemonnier.

“We have increased security checkpoints” in the capital and at the border, Youssouf said.

Djibouti, about the size of the U.S. state of New Jersey, has a $1.2 billion economy that relies on services related to the country’s location on the Red Sea, one of the world’s busiest shipping lanes.

Cool  1.2 billion not to bad for a nation under 4 million. When we sack Geele, more distribution of our massive wealth amongst the Djiboutiennes inshallah. And phasing out Ethiopian Airlines with Djibouti Airlines, all the somalis should fly with us not the Ethiopians, but that's later.

And for the helping out Somalia thing, I think that's great Wallahi, anything Djibouti can do to bring safety and security to help OUR SOMALI PEOPLE.
I am all for
Inshallah we can slowly phase out Amisom and replace it with Djiboutian troops, then secure the Somali army, and train them. At least that's kind of better.

But It might be our (Djibouti) turn to try and to wipe out al shabaab inshallah Since others have failed in the past, They are the cancer ruining Somalia, then after that we can stop Qabilism and built a Nation free from that.
But we can't do it alone, Reer Somalia needs to help Reer Djibouti, help Reer Somalia.

Two Brothers working together towards a greater future.

How many troops does Djibouti have in Somalia all together , is it wise for Djibouti to send more troops when Eritrea is at their doorstep and can invade them

unlike of the rest of amisom, djibouti gets military equipments from the US for this service so this saves from her spending money on the army.

Djibouti troops are better equiped than the ethiopian troops

Baladweyne airport recieves all the week two US planes carrying heavy weapons for djibouti.

Some times djibouti amisom gives the local army $100000 after the operations

Of course they help us more than the rest of amisom, they are giving us weapons, logistics, training from their hearts and more than this they pay their food from the locals wich made good market for the locals and their business men.

Djibouti officers also pay the local prodects and sell them in djibouti.

Djibouti also needs to watch out for further alshabaab attacks domestically.
