Looks like the Syrian conflict will be decided with a confrontation between the Assad regime and the Islamic State.

In one week IS has captured a gas field (200+ Assadists killed), the largest base in Eastern Syria and launched assaults against the regime in other regions.

On top of that Shia militias are returning to Iraq to fight the IS there leaving Assad short on manpower/experience + other Islamic groups forming alliances (there are now 4 major ones), surely the success Assad was enjoying of late is but ending.

Indeed the seculars (LeJusticier & co) and those who support the massacre of Muslim civilians are mourning at such news, truly they will cry to exhaustion but that will not help him (Assad) in the least. And many amongst mankind understand not.

What is the authenticity of those hadith? Regardless it can not be worse than Assad.

Their status is hasan and not da'eef, the great imam abdulrahman suyuti in his famous book about the Mahdi mentioned those hadiths, dealing with a man who rules Iraq and sham with a swift hand, " he will appear to be pious be he is not pious at all" , why would you fall for some big show caliph? we all know the real caliph is the man that will be given the bay'ah in the haram, until then it's all phonies.

Is there anything that says Mahdi will re-establish a caliphate or a caliphate will not exist before then? The hadith just says he'll become the Caliph. The idea that there will be no caliphate before the Mahdi, is merely an opinion. No?

First of all I didn't call anyone a Caliph. Secondly the same hadith you're quoting mentions Imam Mahdi will come at a time when there is already a strong Muslim state (not fake nations i.e. Jordan).
