Do you really want to have a civilized discussion about the concept of Somali nationalism?


First let me address your statement.

1. No one is standing in your way to create a party.

2. In order to compete the party has to be among top three since there's a three party system in SL. Today the leaders of the main parties happen to be Isaaq but 5 years ago the main party Udub was lead by a non Isaaq who was also the president of Somaliland for 8 years.

3. Isaaq happen to outnumber all the other clans living in SL by far not only now but historically as well. The Somaliland parliamentary elections in 1960 proved that SNL (Garxajis, Ciise Muuse, Arap, Toljecle, Ayuub) and NUF (HJ + Sacad Muuse) got more votes respectively than USP (Dhulbahante, Warsangeli, Ciise, Gadubiirsi). The notion that governmental and parliamentary seats should be distributed based on lineage and clan affiliation is absurd. Somaliland is not Somalia where people are given seats based on the 4,5 system.

Btw the defense minister of SL is Darood and not Isaaq as you're implying.

What do I know about nationalism? Well.. for me nationalism is not some romanticized concept based on illusions but on reality. Somaliland, a sovereign state (June 26,1960), gave up independence for a united Somali republic based on the 5 Somali territories. Not only was the unification process illegal and Somaliland ending up being annexed by Somalia but the dream of uniting all Somalis was never feasible and today it's impossible. In other words the (illegal) union becomes useless since the main objectives can't be reached.

It's also absurd that Somalia is claiming SL (equal entity) when it can't claim NFD,K5 and Djibouti using the irredentist card because of the treaties signed with these countries.
