First off, they already did that. I believe the Arabs gave Siad Barre oil to delay his developing Somalia's energy resources.
If Somalida want to be successful Ilaahey ka baqaan wax hana bartaan and let them try to work hard to educate themselves. This is the hard work they don't wanna do. They just wanna snatch a quick buck making a cut of something. They think they are smarter than the rest of the world but the rest of the world sees them as cheap beggars who think they are clever. Somalis should look 2-3 generations ahead b/c waxba ma soo socdaan in the short-term.
1. Somali pirates are not a major factor if people wanna get serious. They can kill every pirate all they need is drones. Pirates are just sasab to be in those important waters.
2. If Somalia does have so much oil then tell me why would the Arabs be happy about a competitor right next to their doorsteps?
3. For years Iran/Iraq had their oil offline, Libya was sanctioned, Algeria couldn't produce as much....and the Gulf countries dominated. Why didn't they invest in those oil fields? You don't need to invest in a product when that product is under your own ground. If a few Arabs own a stake in Shell does that mean Abu Dhabi, Qatar and Riyadh are gonna split their market share to help the Somalis. They OWN Aramco, ADNOC, Qatar Petroleum, RasGas etc.
4. The only groups that could be serious about that in Somalia is Turkey & China b/c Turkey wants to be energy brokers, not energy exporters. Already they are gonna have Russian oil travel to their South Stream to get to Europe. If anybody wants Somalia to produce it's Turkey since the Somali Govt. owes them everything and can get a lot of contracts for Somali reconstruction, industries, factories etc. Look Also, Turkey has other industries they don't rely 100% on oil/gas like the Gulf countries. Turkey has an interest in seeing East Africa boom because it's a market for their products. Gulf countries don't care about those markets b/c they have something everyone will buy.
5. China doesn't want to spend a lot of money/time/resources only to find out it turns into another Libya.
6. Teeda kale, who is gonna invest in Somalia when the Govt. is collapsing every year? The International community has billions of dollars of investment money and if their investment is not secure they won't come near Somalia.
7. This is an era of very cheap gas. Nobody is gonna spend all this money to develop Somali oil/gas when there is so much gas everywhere. Don't you know what happened w/ the oil price lately. US Shale oil is going out of business and many wells are not being drilled now due to the fact that Saudi can pump so much oil that nobody will spend their money producing new energy sources.
Bottom Line: There's 100 places more stable and profitable than Somali oil.
Why are you acting like Soma Oil & Gas is Shell, EXXON-Mobil or BP? It's just a company that was formed a few years ago funded by a Russian billionaire to try and get seismic data.
In the oil industry they are called 'wildcatters'. They take the risk that the big players don't take in the hope they either sell out or get a cut when the big players get in.
Anyways, the oil game is for big players now. Don't think Somalia will get into that game right now. Nobody has respect for Somalia's institutions or politics.
