MOGADISHU, Somalia Feb 7, 2015 (Garowe Online)-Federal Government of Somalia’s Deputy Minister for Defence Abdirahman Kulmiye Hirsi resigned from the newly formed cabinet on Saturday, Garowe Online reports.

Speaking to reporters in Mogadishu, Hirsi said he was not consulted and decided to step down from the ministerial post following lengthy discussions with his titled clan elders and politicians.

Protesting the process in which the nominees was cherry-picked, departing deputy minister noted that 4.5 power SHARING quota has failed to appease his clan.

“My nomination goes against 4.5 formula and prior to the release of the lineup, I was not consulted,” Hirsi said during press briefing.
He held the same post in former Prime Minister Abdi Farah Shirdon’s government in 2013.

On Thursday evening for the third time, Prime Minister Sharmarke unveiled 65-choices, waiting for approval by the often fickle 275-seat-chamber of parliament.

This is a council of clan representatives. This is not a national government.
