Sudan has not taken sides its waiting for the right time to jump ship Khartoum has some times operated as a mediator between Egypt and Ethiopia it hosted allot of talks Sahal is right that Khartoum and South sudan talked in Ethiopia Khartoum is not anti Ethiopia nor anti the Dan Per-say.
Liquid thinks this is the 1970s when Egypt and Sudan were allies , during the reigns of Gaafar Nimeiry and anwar saddat Egypt and SUDAN are not as close as they were before there are allot of differences.
The question is not can Egypt attack Ethiopia but will it attack Ethiopia there is allot of dialogue behind close doors allot of discussions the Europeans the Americans Israelis the Chinese are all in the middle of this
By the Way Eritrea is not a player in this conflict Eritrea has been outmaneuvered by Ethiopia Diplomatically and Militarily Eritrea is isolated so when ever Afoworki visits Cairo its just to put up a play and try to use his visits as scare tactics against Ethiopia. When things get real and Eritrea tries sabotage Ethiopia one call from Tel aviv will do the work, and i dont think Afowrki is that stupid to jeopardize his good relations with the Jewish state.
The Nile conflict is a conflict which has its roots in the colonial treaties Britain orchestrated during its stay in Egypt and the Sudan. There has to be a comprehensive agreement on this no one is denying that Egypt has a superior air force but it will not use and the Sudan issue also stands in the way. Egypt now tries to create a new relationship with South sudan.
As for Djibouti , Djibouti is also not a player , Djibouti is part of The Horn of Africa Sahal claims it neighbors Syria lol , being a member of the Arab league is meaningless there is not one common Foreign policy of the Arab league on the Palestinian Israeli conflict not on the Syrian conflict not on the Lebanese issue and not on the Ethiopian and Egyptian Nile dispute Djibouti will side with Ethiopia , there was not even an agreement on the Golf states on Egypt or its own Foreign Policy, Arab league is dysfunctional organization.
Djibouti benefits from its Economic Commercial ties with Ethiopia it benefits from Ethiopia and the electricity from the Ethiopian grand renaissance dam. People dont understand the world does not operate like Somalis think, Militarily is a last resort only Somalis would use the army as the first option to get things done hence the demise of the former Somali republic.
The Egyptians have been dreaming of an alliance with the Somalis in the Horn of Africa because there were animosities between the Somalis and the Ethiopians in the past , the Egyptians tried to revive the Former Somali republic it has tried so many efforts. But unlucky them the Somalis of today will never be used by Arabs against the Ethiopians have freed the Somalis from Alshabaab with out Ethiopia 70% of the territory would be in the Hands of Alshabaab. There is not a Somali leader in the Horn who doesn't say anaga iyo walaalaheena Ethiopia whether Ina cumar Geele Axmed Siilaanyo Xassan Sheikh.
