Ta'iz was never part of South Yemen

]
??????

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taiz

"Chronology

1175: Taiz is made capital of Yemen as it was incorporated into dominions of the Ayyubid dynasty by Turan-Shah.

1500 (approximately): The capital is moved to Sana'a by the ruler of the Taharid dynasty.

1516: Taiz comes under Ottoman control.

1918: The Ottomans lose Taiz to the new independent Yemen.

1948: Taiz becomes the administrative capital of Yemen, as it is made the residence of the imam.

1962: State administrations move back to Sana'a.

1960s: The first purified water system in Yemen is opened in Taiz."

Taiz is near Sana'a and in the South. See the map at that link.

Yes, Ta'iz was the capital of the Mutawakkilite Imamate of Yemen, which is NORTH Yemen. South Yemen used to be the Federation of South Arabia and the Protectorate of South Arabia both under British rule, which gained independence together in the 1960s. North Yemen had a nationalist revolution under Ali Abdullah Salah in the 1970s that overthrew the Imamate and South Yemen merged with North Yemen in the 1990s.

Ta'iz governorate is contentious because the eastern half in the mountains around Ta'iz itself is Zaydi and in fact the seat of the Imam, while the western half in the Tihama plain is mostly Sunni and contains the important port town of Mukha, and that area considers itself part of the South in modern times but was not historically.

James

yes tacis is a northern province but it wasn't located on bab al mandab, now it includes bab al mandab bc sanaa has added it to this province in order to attribute to the north its importance and reer bin ladin r about to build a bridge that connects tacis to djibouti

Before the union bab al mandab was part of south

The pic is not sticky but you can see it from this link
