Somalis mostly befriend somalis from similar clan background

Perhaps this is not the best title i could have used, a more suitable one would be: somalis keep somalis from same clan within close circles.
I have noticed this on facebook all the time, you click on one's profile and you figure out their clan by what groups they like or have joined or what political posts they have then you can click on a person from their friends list 8/10 times that person happens to be from the same clan. I went through people from different corners of the earth but all share same clan.
I was surprised the same applies to JareerWeyne, you find one and almost all their friends are jareerWeyne. And im not just referring to Somalis in Somalia but also those who live in the west and east and many of whom are fairly educated.
This clearly doesnt apply to the somalis who're borderline Somali as in integrated/assimilated into the western society.

This is very true. Applies especially to Somalis from the former Somalia Italiana. Not so much to Somalilanders. We welcome anyone into our friend circle, but in Somalia, there is still much tensions between clans, thus affecting the behaviour of diasporans.

The older Somalis do this, but the younger Somalis in the West don't do this.

I noticed that my parents mainly visit and get visited by other Darods in my town, but almost never have Isaaq or Hawiyes over.

Yup, clan aware/active Somalis feel uncomfortable befriending other somalis from different clans. Thats very polarizing and very similar to the state affairs in Somalia.
Obviously this does not involve fish & chips kids in the west, whom mostly couldnt care less about clan.

This depends on the person and its generally wrong. My father has associates from every corner of the horn. My mother is a bit different, most of her friends are reer waqooyi, which she knew in her formative years. Even then most of them aren't Samaroon only. So, that's a double no. They make friends more based on loyalty, as opposed to clan affiliations alone.

I have friends from all tribes. Damn I just realized I have too many dir friends
