Somalia a failed state ?

Postby gobdoon » Sun Jun 21, 2015 8:08 am

There is no doubt about that but the question is it the only nation which failed the world , no there are more nations falling to that catogary and the list is growing every day Libiya , Syria , Iraq , Mali , could you put that list on the countries who are failing economically say I Europe Portugal, Greece , Spain etc , so the whole world is spinning , but Somalia has became a catch word for any one trying to point out a failed state , leaders like Qadafi has warned his people before his down fall , that Libiya was heading the way of Somalia like division and tribal conflict , so now Nigeria president is joining the list of leaders KA ACUUD BILAYSANAYA SOMALIYA where he commented how that country is not working and all the leaders in charge are corrupt and are into self intrest , so I don't understand why many Somalis are angry and are not happy with that comment may be We don't want to hear the truth and are in denial where as Nigerian president is an outside observer and is talking about the reality.

Maybe because in these countries there is traces of somehow intact and functional goverments.
But so does Somalia it had TFG (now SFG) They have Puntland, Jubaland, Southwest state, various small scale administration in central Somalia that acts as governments, Somaliland (on papers of course) but you only hear about
how failed and anarchist Somalia is on the media while ignoring all these admirable examples of self governing in such a hostile and exterm circumstances.

I blame western, Middle eastern and ... you know what? scratch that, the WHOLE GLOBAL MEDIA is behind this.
And to certain extent, reer Xamar, as a capital, the spotlight that was designed to represent the Somali race was on
that city the last 25 years and for the most part, it was negative.

What is a failed state?

If failure is based on the loss of sovereignty the measures are:

1. Inability to exert control over claimed territory
2. Inability or willingness to deliver services to claimed population
3. Incapacity to reach decisions via collective majority
4. Incapacity to enter and honor international agreements

Point 4 although the easiest to execute has as prerequisite 1, 2 and 3.

The term "failed state" could mean: a state that has been failed by the international community deliberately and consciously and is awarded the title to facilitate encroachment on it's sovereign territory. Once awarded the title the international community has the power to FORCE delivery of the above 4 Statehood responsibilities via the various tools at their disposal, it is a form of remote trusteeship.

Real question

- Who failed Somalia?

All 4 points you listed prove that Somalia is completely a failed state.

Somalia is not a failed state. In many sectors, Somalia is ahead of many countries in the world, such as telecommunication, education, etc. State institutions are forming, and gradually the country is coming back to normal.
