Somalia enters into an agreement with Spectrum ASA on seismic data Survey in Southern Somalia

Postby libaaxyare » Fri Sep 11, 2015 7:52 am

MOGADISHU, September 5, 2015 –Somali government on Saturday said it has entered with an agreement of Multi-Client seismic survey company Spectrum ASA in a statement released on Saturday.

The agreement which was signed in Mogadishu, the Somali capita allows Spectrum to acquire approximately 28,000 km of long offset 2D seismic data offshore south Somalia in order to image subsurface structures. The survey will focus on Shell blocks and create extensive data needed by Somalia and international oil/gas companies, the statement from the the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources said.

“this historic seismic data agreement will be the resumption of the exploration programme of the hydrocarbon reserves of our country” Mohamed Mukhtar Ibrahim , Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources said, “It will be a turning point for the economic development of our nation.”

The new acquisition is intended to complement 20,000 km of existing seismic that was acquired in 2014. These seismic surveys will allow the in-depth study of hydrocarbon prospectivity offshore Somalia, which lies in close proximity to major discoveries on the East African margin, covering 20,000km of existing seismic that was acquired in 2014.

The Multi-Client model described within the agreement ensures that the government will receive the acquired data to help map the hydrocarbon resource potential at no cost. With the acquired data, Spectrum ASA will use its global marketing reach to raise interest and awareness amongst the oil and gas industry.

They are heavily interested in the offshore of Middle Shabeele up to Merca and don't know why. I would have assumed Hobyo offshore would be a better option.

There will no pumping of Oil&Gas anywhere in Somalia\Somaliland or any other land settled by Somalis, they are just leading us on, the world is not ready for a oil&gas producing Somalia.

The world is ready, the question is ''Are Somalis ready''?

That is a question which perhaps demands a passing thought.

We are definitely not ready, and as far as the world is concerned we will never be ready because we are not submissive enough to be in possession of such wealth, imagine us being as rich as Saudi Arabia or those other Arab nations? we would probably bully every friggin country into conceding to our demands, we would probably enslave Ethiopia and turn Kenya into a holiday restort. There can only be one super power in the world, maybe two, but theres no such thing as two nr 1s.

Somalis with oil money  , we would see tribes waging multi-million dollar wars over oil rigs, bombing the shit out of each other with F-16s and heavy artillery.

We are not ready.

Only way we can ever be ready is if we have a change of leadership.

Waxaan soo xasuustay mar uu Happy Khaliifa (A Somali Comedian) said, Somalia will be last country to create Nuclear Weapon and the last to use; probably Reer Qansax vs Reer Qurac.

I really hope we don't :?

As someone with an Engineering background I can tell you, even if they find one barrel of Oil, pumping it will not happen for years to come so in a way it's better to find it now so in 10 years take we will actually be ready and hopefully Al Shabab would be gone. The only obstacle now to Somalia being peaceful is Al Shabab because all these so called Federal states or Somaliland will be a political solution and not War.

Somalis are not smart people, or even Africans for that matter.

Look at Arab countries who already have OIL, do you think they are any better?

Nope, 90% of their budget comes from OIL revenues, and haven't invested in any other industry anf wouldn't know what to do if the oil runs out, or someone invents a car that doesn't need OIL.

I hope and wish they find oil and gas so we can live and retire in a different Somalia.

Oil can sometimes be more of a curse than a good or beneficial.
