An Oxford and Paris graduate in 1950's, Turabi was a man of great influence in Sudanese politics. the nephew of sadiq almahdi (former pm) and the same person that brought bashir to power in 1989. him and bashir broke up their party in 1999 and turabi started a new party but spent most of the next decade in jail. he had some relations with bin laden in early 90s before bin laden was expelled in 1996 and before 9/11.

regardless of the fact that many sudanese were against him, I hope he rests in peace. he is a great loss.
