My tribute to true Somali heroes of long ago.
May they rest in peace and serenity, for eternity. May God place light before them, light after them, light behind them and light around. May God shower them with his blessings and his mercy. May their ancestors and descendents alike take pride in their achievements. May they be forever remembered for their bravery and dignity and selflessness. May they always be a beacon of light for the Somali people in our darkest of times.
These wadani, honourable and noble Somali men fought to keep their people and nation free from Abyssinian oppression and subjugation. They have their lives, their sweat and their tears for the freedom and dignity of their people. They fought valiantly, day and night, and successfully repel the invaders, interlopers and occupiers who were the Xabashis. It is unfortunate that people like Hawdian today love these same Xabashis. The Abyssinian Emperor Menelik's Somali expedition, consisting of an army of 11,000 men, made a deep push into the vicinity of Luuq, which was ruled by the Somali Gabroon dynasty. However, his troops were soundly defeated by the Gabroon army, with only 200 soldiers returning alive. The Abyssinians subsequently refrained from further expeditions into the interior of Somalia, but continued to oppress the people in the Somali Ogaden region by plundering the nomads of their livestock numbering in the hundreds of thousands.
