They are publicly allied with Al Qaeda..receive funds and fighters from abroad. The current Somali forces should also receive assistance to counter them.

AMISOM have done a lot in reducing the power of Al Shabab. At one point Shabab were the de facto government. People criticise AMISOM unfairly sometimes because everyone loves a scapegoat.

However, my criticism is that there appears to be no exit plan. Somali troops should be trained to a good standard and paid well. Over time AMISOM should gradually reduce its numbers and operations.
