Biggest mistake was his incursion into Ethiopia that specific moment was the beginning of the fall of Somalia as a Nation.Barre had the oportunity to change Somalia history but his many failures destroyed the country and its future aspirations.
an orderly transition of power is unfortunately not in the somali vocabulary. barre stepping down though would of led to a power vacuum and the results would pretty much be the same.Barre had the oportunity to change Somalia history but his many failures destroyed the country and its future aspirations.

No, I know Somali republic died in 1969 when amatour 'scientific socialists' with nepotistic militery took the country at ransom. A country that was still crawling on all fours.i don't believe somalia is a country anymore. when i heared kenya wants some of somalia's sea this is when i knew i had been right all along. when siyad barre died somalia died with him.

Barre could win the war but many factors avoided this probable victory. Many Somalis felt betrayed when Barre retreated from Ogaden in 1978. He was not an expert soldier and his knowledge about the art of war was limited, at best.
