Barre had the oportunity to change Somalia history but his many failures destroyed the country and its future aspirations.
an orderly transition of power is unfortunately not in the somali vocabulary. barre stepping down though would of led to a power vacuum and the results would pretty much be the same.
i am of the believe that today there is no such thing as somalia. and this is clearly evident by somalia's neighbours not only occupying it but also seeking to make land grabs as is the case with the current dispute between somalia and kenya over maritime borders.
the quicker somalia can Balkansise then the better for everybody
