Dr Berhanu Nega is indeed Gurage but politically Gurage are not langaab.
They are very much embedded into the way of the Amhara. The Amhara, Gurage and the Agews (Qemant and Himra) are all inline politically.
The Amhara support Nega but they plan to take the helm while Gurage will freely resume their business culture which the Tigrais disrupted.
These three forces are inseparable ideally, culturally, socially, politically and economically.
In the old Abyssinia, Amhara kings were advised to marry Gurage women. In the eyes of the Tewahedo (unity) Church it was a define order. It was the prophecy in order for Tewodros to appear and Tewodros is equivalent to our Mahdy.
Gurage is going to eat good under Amhara and Amhara trust Gurage unlike Tigrais. Much of the so called Habesha food have their roots in Gurage.
Especially amongst Shoan and Gonderingya Gurages are respected members.

This song from Gondar celebrates that union through the idolisation of Fasilides (Qemant Agew, founders of Gondar city), Tewodros II (the Amhara anbesa) and Gurage craftmen, wives and mothers of the Lion of Judah.
Dr Berhanu needs to reach out to Oromo because he is key to the Oromo-Amhara bridge since he knows both sides best having been born in Oromo region (Boshoftu aka Debre Zeit). He is after all a son of Oromo with Gurage blood leading an Amhara army.
And from the Agew Hemra (Wag Hemra, Sekota). Very unionist people more so than Amhara and long time rulers of Ethiopia since Akshum times (Axum). Right now they chasing Tigrais out as are the Qemant of Wolkait and Humera.

The Falasha Agews (Beta-Israelis) are protesting on Israeli streets in solidarity with their Qemant, Hemra cousins and the Ethiopian people in general where still much of their hearts belong.
Agews are the true lovers of Ethiopia. No race or ethic has sacrificed more than them in the long history of Ethiopia.
God bless
