Al Shabaab strike in Somalia wounding U.N guards

Magadishu has been the target of a number of attacks staged by the terrorist group Al Shabaab. Recently, a car blew up near a U.N Facility in Somalia’s capital. According to Police reports, at least four United Nations Guards were injured during this attack.

Needless to say, that this this not the first attack to occur in Mogadishu. As a matter of fact, the city has been pleagued with terrorist attacks organized by Al Shabaab group. Indeed, Al Shabaab-jihadist group is held responsible for a series of bombings in both Somalia and Kenya.

They even claimed full responsability over the latest blast in Mogadishu. “We are behind the blast that injured at least three U.N. guards this morning,” declared Sheikh Abdiasis Abu Musab, al Shabaab’s spokesman.

Al Shabaab, that stands for “The Youth” in arabic, is a jihadist movement that started in East Africa, since 2006. Equally important to note, that they are linked to Al Qaeda organization, as of 2012.

Actually, they are fighting against Somalia’s Government, by staging a number of explosion in the country and neighbouring Kenya. Just a few days ago, Al Shabaab insurgents, carried two explosions near the airport of Somalia’s Capital, causing at least nine fatalities.

According to Police investigations, the bomb was implanted in a car parked, in a garage near the United Nations compound. As usual, the attackers used a remote detonator for the car to explode. Four men working at the UNDP (United Nation Development Compound), were severly wounded. “We can confirm that four guards working for the United Nations were injured,” declared Major Nur Osman to Reuters.

The victims of this attack are all Somali Nationals. One of the Wounded -Chief of local security guards- is suffering from deep injuries. For further investigation, the police arrested a number of suspects linked to the blast.
