Ben Dover is right the Somali Republic had nothing to boast , even the security was not good back then because the military government used to terrorize people. Barre regime first terrorized it's own army members, then the religious community, then central regions people, then the Northern people and finally southern people, we had a government at war with its own people. The military government killed more people and destroyed more properties compare to today's alshabaab. I believe even Mogadishu is more developed today than before the only thing it lacks is security and pride. New major cities emerged like bosaso which was nothing back then. Somaliland rapidly grew despite the the civil war destruction. Hargeisa grew bigger and taller during the last one decade , it never made such progress between 1960- 1991. The only thing that's not developed in Hargeisa is the roads . I believe all Somalis are living better today than yesterday except few places in the south and kilil 5 because of the security problems.

Hargeisa was the second best looking because Isaaq built it, not the government. Also Hargeisa was the capital of one of the two constituent countries that formed the Somali Republic, you can not compare it to a village like Garowe.
