Marehan Union was started by Adan Loow and he ran on it.



Adan Shire Jama aka "Adan Loow"; the man who shot the first shots in the Italo-Abbysinian war and organized the first free Somali elections in 1960. Adan Loow struck the ]shot heard around East Africa and brought the Italians and Abbysinians head on.This saw the eventual Italian takeover of the Ethiopian state and Haile Salassie escaping into exile.

He later became one of the finest administrators in the trusteeship government, took the position of Interior Minister in the trusteeship colonial government, organized the first free Somali elections, and continued to be a high profile minister post-Somali independence in the 60's (Minister of Justice). They called him "Loow" because he was wounded in the knee during war.

Adan Shire Jaamac (Adan Low)

Hon. Aden was born in 1918 in Dusa Mareb. In his childhood he helped his father in his business and attended a Quranic School. In 1934 he enrolled in the Corpo delle Bande Dubat. In 1939 he was in Italy working for the African Ministry with the rank of Capo Banda, and went to Elementary school.

He fought in the Partisan War in Italy, and was wounded and decorated. He came back to Somalia in 1946 and was employed by the Education Department. He attended courses in English. He joined the Somali Progressive Party in 1949 and was the President of the Party.

From September 1956 to December 1958 he attended the Political Administrative School, received a Diploma, and became a Secretary. In 1958 he joined the Ministry of Interior where he organised the electoral service for administrative and political elections.
