Postby Voltage » Fri Sep 08, 2017 7:33 pm

Dr Mohamed Adan Sheikh comes from one of the most educated Somali families in Somali history, the rer Aw-Mohamud.

He was the first credentialed Somali surgeon, became the first Somali to take charge of a hospital post-colonialism becoming the head of Hospital Martini and Digfer, and became the ideological leader of the 1969 coup.

He became the Minister of Higher Learning, Information, Secretary-General of the SRC, but in 1982 fell out with Siad Barre upon telling him to resign. He was jailed and moved back to Italy upon release where he lived with his Italian wife until his death.

He was Darod/Marehan/Celi.

Dr. Mohamed Aden Sheikh

A shepherd, medical doctor, communist, émigré and former Somali minister, Dr Mohamed Aden Sheikh Aw-Mohamud deserves a loving eulogy that touches hearts, but not the one for Tony Judt. Born in Somali territory in Ethiopia, he was one of the leading Somali intellectuals of his peers.

...

Prior to associating himself with Dictator Mohamed Siad Barre, Dr Mohamed Aden was one of the most revered cardiologists in Somalia. As a young graduate who specialised cardiac surgery in Italy, he began his career at Digfer Hospital. Barre found him to be a very intelligent and exploited him in planning a coup against the civilian government.

..

Soon after Barre’s rise to power, Dr Mohamed Aden was not only appointed as Health Secretary, but also the speechwriter and ‘thinker of the regime.’ For many years, he acted as a Gramscian and was the Malcolm X of Siadist dogma and its conjunction with philosophical assumption of Scientific Socialism as an ideology within dynasty (Mohamed Siad was both Elijah Mohammed and great demagogue in this case).

https://www.hiiraan.com/op4/2010/oct/16 ... unist.aspx
From Aydiid's book about Siad Barre on the night of the coup
"Working with him were Lieutenant Colonel Ali Malan Hasii and two other officers of Siad Barre's own Marehan tribe.

Besides this, he chose three intellectuals of his tribe, who were secretly working for him in evolving the political system and the future policy. They were spreading his ideas. The chief among them was a well-known named Mohammed Aden who had received his education in Italy and obtained a Doctorate of Pediatrics (Medicine)."

On his death, the city council of Torino, Italy where he lived commemorated the life of this intellectual giant. His former Italian wife speaks at 7 and then after her the Mayor.

Upon his death, his wife opened the Mohamed Adan Sheikh Children's Teaching Hospital (MAS) in Hargeisa which was built with his money upon his wishes.
Somalia: New Hargeisa Hospital Provides 24-Hour Medical Services for Children

Hargeisa — The opening of the first hospital specialising in paediatric illnesses in Hargeisa bodes well for Somalia, which has the worst child mortality rate in the world according to the United Nations.

The paediatric clinic at the Mohamed Aden Sheikh Children's Teaching Hospital opened January 26th, bringing free specialised paediatric treatement to the region for the first time.

The opening ceremony was attended by Somaliland Minister of Health Hussein Mohamud Mohamed, first lady Amina-Weris Sheikh Mohamud Jirde, Speaker of Parliament Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi, Minister of Planning Saad Haji Ali Shire, officials from the University of Hargeisa and a delegation from Onlus Somalia Association, a non-profit organisation Sheikh founded in Turin, Italy, in 2002.

A lifelong dream

"Before his death, [Sheikh] had long hoped to build a hospital in Mogadishu, but since the conflict did not recede there, he opted to implement it in Hargeisa," Mohamed said at the opening ceremony. "Even though he died, his idea survived and will endure."

Sheikh, originally from southern Somalia, had been the minister of health and the minister of culture and higher education under the Siad Barre regime, before being elected to parliament in 1980. In 1982, he was arrested for allegedly conspiring against the government of Siad Barre and was jailed until 1989, when he moved to Italy where he spent the rest of his life.

After Sheikh's death in 2010, his wife Felicita Torrielli and his friends from Turin raised funds to establish the hospital, and construction started in September 2011. Their efforts were supported by companies and agencies in Italy, Mohamed said.

Indeed Faqash should do things in their own villages instead of going to Hawiye, Isaac, Kikuyu or Amhara cities (including Jigjiga).

I never heard of this man nor has Somaliland. If they knew he was such a Faqash, they would never allow this concentration unit on their land.

There is no evidence he was a proper medical professional either. When Faqash talk about surgeons most likely he amputated and disfigured Isaaq civilians before mass burying them or running tanks over them. In such we can say he was most likely the "chemical Ali" of Siyad Barre.

We can say he operated such activities indefinitely and it's shame anyone approved this facility without doing the proper background check. We can still ship the containers and few beds to Gedo. Please arrange shipment.

The good news is no body uses this facility as Hargeisa has enough hospitals by its locals and trusted international investors.

Wa bilahi towfiiq

this !!

I can see why he build the hospital in Hargaisa doe, more people live there, more xasana/ajar for every visit. Besides I don't get why SL in this thread are on the offensive, since when did Somalis develop this toxic mentality of total war. :?
