Galmudug uranium reserves

Postby random123456789 » Sat Oct 28, 2017 1:38 am

"Industry sources say the deposits may exceed a quarter of the world's known reserves of 800,000 tons. Moreover, they said, the uranium lies close to the surface and can permit strip-mining techniques which is far less costly than deep-mining.
Somalia could be for uranium what Iraq is to oil.

In addition to uranium, international geologists have also discovered Yttrium, a rare and costly mineral which experts say can sell for six times as much as uranium per pound.

The Gal-Mudug Regions of Central Somalia is endowed with another mineral deposit, uranium deposits. Following numerous mineral explorations, the area between between Dhusa-mareeb, El-bur, Wasil and Galkayo was found to contain extensive deposits of Uranium in the Taleh Formation that covers Galgaduud and South Mudug Regions. In the Miocene and the Pliocene (the Tertiary), the Taleh Formation had undergone extensive weathering in which secondary mineralization occurred. In this way Uranium minerals were formed in shallow deposits of calcretes and silcrete.

Believe me....if you know anything about Uranium mining.....you will leave that poison in the ground and not release it into the water and soil of the region. :)

Our greatest obstacle to peace is because of this curse uranium.

Uranium is dangerous content to have specially if you are third world country.

Galmudug is a shithole and how they are considered a state with only 1 and 1/4 regions is surprising to me. And even that tiny land they have is split into occupation by alshabab and AMISOM soldiers meanwhile their capital cadaado which only has a population of 9k is controlled by fufus AMISOM soldiers sent from kenya. What a useless group of ppl galmudug ppl are lol

Actually this whole thread is fake news. If you copy and paste OP's whole first comment there is no article alleging Somalia has that much Uranium. It's just nerds talking on forums kinda like this

Article from Stimson (The Stimson Center is a nonpartisan policy research center working to solve the world's greatest threats to security and prosperity):

"The Fact of the Matter: Al-Shabaab is Not Mining Uranium in Somalia to Sell to Iran"

"A letter sent by Somalia’s Foreign Minister Yusuf Garaad to the U.S. Ambassador of Somalia, Stephen Schwartz, on August 11 overstates the risk of nuclear proliferation as an attempt to bring the United States into what is a decades-long protracted, factional conflict further complicated by high food insecurity, terrorism and no functioning central government. "

"There are no operating uranium mines in Somalia, nor any plans to construct one. The country’s known reserves are small and highly expensive to extract[1] with data largely based on geological mapping efforts done in the 1960s and 1970s. Today, mining activities in Somalia are described as small-scale and artisanal, mainly gemstones and salt production in Somaliland,[2] a self-declared independent (but not internationally recognized) region of Somalia.

Any development of the minerals sector is complicated by Somalia’s grim security environment. Twenty-six years of war, famine, foreign intervention, and terrorism have left Somalia’s 12 million inhabitants hungry, acutely malnourished, and displaced with most of the population (73%) living on less than US$2 per day. Mogadishu and other towns are now under government control, but the situation is far too divided and violent for democratic elections — the last were held in 1969. Somalia is Africa’s most failed state[3] and has been called “the worst place in the world.”[4]

The letter’s claim that Al-Shabaab, an Islamist militant group allied to al-Qaeda, is “strip mining triuranium octoxide” from “captured critical surface exposed uranium deposits in the Galmudug region” would suppose first that Al-Shabaab has an interest in excavating the land for uranium and secondly has the large industrial equipment, dump trucks, solvents and know-how to break and crush ore then extract and separate out uranium, and process it into a concentrate form for transport. No extremist group is known to have the resources for a mining operation, even if taking over an-already operational mine, nor would such an operation go unnoticed by intelligence agencies.

If Somalia actually had uranium they would do to Somalia what they do to Niger, which has one of the largest uranium deposits in the world. First they would get some corrupt politicians to sign contract giving Somalia short end of the stick when it comes to profiting off uranium , and then they would move their military in to protect the uranium deposits like the French and America do in Niger.

None of this has happened in Somalia and America (and the Soviets) came looking for uranium back in the 60's / 70's, around the same time they went looking for uranium in other parts of Africa . The world know exactly how much Uranium is in Somalia already.

Countries that produce most uranium :

Kazakhstan. Mine production: 23,800 tonnes. ...
Canada. Mine production: 13,325 tonnes. ...
Australia. Mine production: 5,672 tonnes. ...
Niger. Mine production: 4,057 tonnes. ...
Russia. ...
Namibia. ...
Uzbekistan. ...
China.

"Uranium in Niger(Updated July 2017)
Niger has two significant uranium mines providing 7.5% of world mining output from Africa's highest-grade uranium ores.
Niger's first commercial uranium mine began operating in 1971.
There is strong government support for expanding uranium mining."

And you want me to believe Somalia has a quarter of the world's uranium reserve. Just stop it bro even Niger doesn't have anywhere close to that and both the U.S. and Soviets knew Somalia doesn't even have close to what Niger has .
