They are all Habesha. Amhara is not the only Habesha. Habesha is the ancient name for Ethiopia and often includes people who share that old culture, beliefs and the Ge’ez language.

So they include Tigrais, Tigre, Amhara, Jeberti, Kebessa, Gurage, Adaris (converted to Islam and some of them deny but they are Habesha) and few other minorities.

The difference between Tigrai and Tigres is that Tigres live in Eritrea while Tigrais are from Tigray region in Ethiopia.

They both speak the Tigrinya language along with the Kebessa (Biher-Tigrinya).

Tigray = Ethiopia (current ruling party)

Tigre = Eritrea

They’re kind of the same people and they speak the same language with different dialogues.

Thanks sxb.

Does that mean they speak only same language but ethnically are different people?

For example there are minority ethnic groups in Koonfur, they are Somali national but they are not Somali ethnic group and they speak Somali. Thwy don't have their own language.

Tigray = North west Ethiopian region. Inhabited by Tigrayan (or Tigrai) ppl. They are TPLF. They speak Tigrinya language. Mostly Christian.

Tigrinyan people live in Eritrea. They also speak Tigrinya language. Mostly Christian.

Tigre people live in Eritrea and Sudan. They speak Tigre language. Mostly Muslim.

Ethnically they are all the same (habesha) but speak different dialects and have difference socio-economic histories.

And you are the Habeshaphile here?

Totaly wrong. Tigre do not speak Tigrinya, they speak Tigre language, a totally deferent Semitic language.

The Tigre are different to Tigrinya speakers. Tigrinya speakers are majority of Tigray region in Ethiopia and also a re biggest group of Eritrea while Tigre speakers do not exist in Ethiopia but only in Eritrea..

Isias Afeworki of Eritrea and Meles Zenewi of Ethiopia are both Tigrinya speaking Tigray.

Tigre are mostly Muslim and call themselves "Jaberti" (the Muslim ones). Their language is Tigre not Tigrinya. They only live in Eritrea, not Ethiopia.

With regards to the Tigray, the Tigrinya speakers of Eritrea look down on the Tigrinya speakers of Ethiopia almost the same way Somalis looked down wrong on the Tumal and Madhibaan or what they consider "Somalized groups."

Tigray in Eritrea call the Ethiopian Tigray of Meles Zenewi "Agame" who were taught the Tigrinya language by the pure Tigray from Eritrea which is why feel no ethnic kinship towards each other.

Tigre are a totally different ethnic group who live between Eritrea and Sudan, call themselves "Jaberti" and heavily intermarry and are culturally affiliated with the Beni-Amer (Beja) and other Cushitic Muslim speakers there.

So they are three different groups.

1. Tigre : Half Muslim, Cushitic cultured but Tigre-speaking who only live in Eritrea. There name is just pure coincidence to the other two groups.
2. Tigrinya-speaking Tigray of Eritrea like Isias Afeworki who consider themselves pure Tigray
3. Tigrinya-speaking Tigray of Ethiopia like Meles Zenewi whom the Eritrea Tigray do not consider pure Tigray

Apart from Tigre speaking Tigre the rest of your essay is wrong. I am aware that Tigre speak Tigre but they also speak Tigrinya and Tigre itself is related to Tigringya.

Jeberti are different group and they were historically traders and gypsies. They drifted from place to place and neither Kebessa nor Tigrais trusted them.

That’s why the Italians converted lots of them to Catholic.

Tigres are Habesha but they heavily inter-marry with the Beja.
