It boggles my mind what exactly they are celebrating? They have sold somaliland second cash cow besides livestock the later is finished since the last drought killed 80-90% of all the animals.
Now they sold Berbera and the difference between our share and Ethiopia is only 10%, we the owners.
The rest of their argument is chicken shit. Let me go thorough their " the sky will rain gold " argument.
1- The so called Berbera corridor , they make it as though this road will be the life line of somaliland's economy . First of all this road will be useful to Ethiopia transporting their goods from and to Berbera through Wajaale , this road will not economically benefit any but Ethiopians . The goods will land at Berbera then DP will exact its duty and then the rest is straight to Wajaale and Ethiopia . There is no explanations how Ethiopia having paid DP its $$$ will be again taxed with in Somaliland?????? This high way robbery is marketed as a success by claiming Ethiopia will build the corridor for somaliland , which is laughable , since this corridor is good only for Ethiopia , somaliland traders hardly export or import anything to Ethiopia.
This corridor will also be used to import Ethiopian goods into somaliland market , now the economic novice will claim somaliland will tax these imports at its own Wajaale side of the border thus earning somaliland some revenue , i say not exactly , Somaliland may tax Ethiopian goods at Wajaale border , but the taxes will be passed over to the somaliland poor consumers who will have to pay more for all Ethiopian goods.
2- Their second argument is , that once DP develops the port , the traffic will increase generating more revenue , but the question is who will cause this alleged traffic increase?? the obvious answer is Ethiopia , but Ethiopia having 19% share in this project practically means , Ethiopia will have to pay next to nothing in port duty. They can balance their imports/exports with other ports and virtually pay nothing by optimizing their 19% share . DP very well knows this fact , and they have to recover their initial cost , the obvious victim in this cost recovery , will be Somaliland traders and hence somaliland consumers since the traders will pass the port duties to the consumers, again the brunt of the cost recovery will fall on somaliland populations not Ethiopia.
3- Their third argument , is that DP will build a free zone port berth , where somaliland traders can import export goods freely . I say bull shit , hooyadaadii heesi jirtay ee qaad walaa ahayd u sheeg. DP will never build a free zone , the somaliland government knows that very well, but they are pacifying the populations , this the classical " bait and switch" once DP is established , this free zone will be forgotten , delayed , and basically never be mentioned at all by any politicians , known the amnesia of our qaad-wale/qabyaalad folks this would be very easy. It wasn't long ago when Oodweyne oil patches was supposedly began this year of the year before and no one seem to remember.
What really insulting is , that DP can sell 19% of Berbera to Ethiopia without consulting the proprietor of Berbera , we don't even know what Ethiopia and DP agreed upon behind closed doors , we have an effeminate limp wristed foreign minister who only happy to be on the spot light like a fashion whore on cat walk.
