if the uneducated somalis in post colonial somalia could archive that, imagen modern educated somalis what we could do
we lost that war diplomatically we were not aware of the disdain the world had for irredentism in post ww2 world order.
our allies somali abo (oromos) did a great job that is one of the reason we would not stop at dirir dawe, because the oromo that were with us insisted the take over of addis infact there is a big debate among the somalis why did siyaad barre not stop.
I have spoken to a somali politician who worked in the presidential palace he said, somalia wanted the desulution of the ethiopian empire, somalia wanted to isolate the habash to the northen regions.
he said the afar and the oromos were not politically awakened, he said the oromo are the sleeping gaint of horn of africa, the war in the ogaden gave rise to tigray and eritrean nationalism but the legacy of that war will be the political awaking of the oromo, especially the muslim oromo.
the ogaden war had a profound impact, it showed the world how fragile the minority habash rulers are.
