Abiy arrests TPLF Generals

November 13, 2018 - Former Director General of state-owned Metals and Engineering Corporation (METEC), Major General Kinfe Dagnew, was arrested, according to FBC report.

According to the report, citing Ethiopian Attorney General Berhanu Tsegaye, General Kinfe Dagnew was arrested as he was trying to flee to Sudan via Humera in Tigray regional state.

He arrived in Addis Ababa today in a helicopter. He is expected to appear in court no later than 48 hours after his arrest.

Video recorded by Ethiopian security forces, and shown on Ethiopian Television, shows General Kinfe Dagnew surrounded by secuirty people. He was then boarded onto a military helicoper and flown to the capital in handcuffs.

Major General Kinfe Dagnew resigned as head of METEC in April 2018, soon after Dr. Abiy Ahmed became Prime Minister of Ethiopia.

The Attorney General office alleges that METEC conducted domestic and international procurement worth US $2 billion dollars without formal formal procedures, in some cases up to 400% higher than market prices. It is also alleged that ships and passenger aircraft were purchased and their whereabouts are unknown.

Although not confirmed, late developments also indicate that, Major General Tekleberhan Woldearegay, founder and former head of the Information Network Security Agency (INSA), was arrested this morning. He was also captured while trying to flee to Sudan through Humera, according to reports.

Major General Tekleberhan Woldearegay is the founder of INSA and its first head until he went abroad for higher studies. He recruited the current Prime Minister, Dr. Abiy Ahmed, to lead INSA on his behalf while he was away. He became head of INSA again soon after his return. He resigned from his position in April this year soon after Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed became Prime Minister of Ethiopia.

With the arrest of Generals Kinfe and Tekleberhan, two key figures from the Tigrayan People's Liberation Front (TPLF) security establishment, and dozens of others, the government of Abiy Ahmed seems to be starting a new escalation in the deteriorating relations with the TPLF. The TPLF has not responded to the current developments.

The whereabouts of the other major figure, Getachew Assefa, is unknown. Getachew Assefa led the Ethiopian National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS) for about two decades. He is currently a member of the Polit Bureau of the TPLF. Heis believed to be in Mekelle city in Tigray. Yesterday, he was accused of serious charges by the Attorney General of Ethiopia, Berhanu Tsegaye, of basically planning the grenade attack against Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed on June 23, 2018.

During a rally in support of PM Abiy Ahmed, bombs exploded killing two and wounding more than a dozen others. In late September this year, the government had briefed reporters that the grenade attack was planned and carried out by supporters of the Oromo Liberation Front (OLF). The TPLF was not mentioned as culprit in that investigation report.

The Attorney General also disclosed that 36 people suspected of corruption have been detained, including former METEC Director General Kinfe Dagnew, and METEC Deputy-Director General Tena Kurnde.

27 other suspects were detained in connection with human rights violation, including Addis Ababa Security Head Goha Atsbeha.

The suspects appeared in court yesterday. The court adjourned hearing until November 26, 2018.

The president of tigray, debresion and some of his allies, in exchange for immunity from PM Abiy Ahmed, agreed to help capture and turn in some big dogs or big looters. I think more arrests will soon follow, time shall tell. Getachew Assefa the formerly untouchable mafioso boss of intelligence, responsible for torture and killings of thousands, if not more, allegedly was captured too.
Basically, tplf is splitting more and more.
The ship is sinking fast and some are willing to throw their comrades to the sharks to distract the sharks as they get away...

This has nothing to do with Abiy. Don't be fooled. TPLF is very clever. They can tie their own hands behind their backs and ask you to take them to jail----the average Mengistu and Obbo Gadaa like our Waachis would giggle and think they hit the jackpot.

Little did they know those clever TPLF is like a Swiss knife.

They just getting rid off old dinosaurs so they could pave the way for a younger generation.

Don't focus on what's being "arrested", focus on who is replacing them. That's what counts.

TPLF is split into two core groups. It was always that way from day one but iron man Meles and his Lieutenants such as Sebhat Nega, Abay Woldu, Bereket Simon (Eritrean heritage, born in Gondar, member of TPLF and Amhara party, he was one of Meles' enforcer) and Samora Yunis used to keep things in check.

The northern Tigrais used to dominate TPLF under Meles but ever since they became billionaires, they became too comfortable and costumed to the high life. They didn't want to enforce the material laws anymore so slowly things got out off their hands.

Now the low grade southern Tigrais want to get back on the old dinosaurs from the north (Adwa, Axum, Agame, Shire).

Even though Debretsion is from Shire, this awraja was never really a fan of TPLF and even started one of the early internal rifts within TPLF (Ethiopian Democratic Union).

The reason the Adwa/Axum crew favored Shire was simply because of their accepted culture, looks and 'ideal Tigregu' perceptions while the south crew were looked down on.

TPLF is still strong. They just having a struggle within and some are using unorthodox measures to eliminate competition.

Still Abiy needs visa to enter Tigray. TPLF long moved METEC to Meqelle and emptied the Shoa one. They also moved the airforce and heavy artillery to Tigray.

2017 report (Tigrai vision was for this subsidiary to eventually become the parent company and reserve company structures. I know these because I talk to my Tigregu friends. They share a lot of insight info).
Mekelle opens first engine factory, marking Tigray’s strategic industrialization. Should Tigray’s progress come at TPLF’s systematic deprivation of rest of Ethiopia?

The factory lies on a 30ha plot of land and was erected with 350 million Birr

The first engine manufacturing plant in the country is set to be operational in Mekelle, Tigray Regional State, with a 350 million Br investment from the local military base corporation.

Named as Mekelle Engine Production Factory, the company is established by one of the 15 subsidiary companies under the Metal & Engineering Corporation (MetEC), the Ethiopian Power Engineering Industry (EPEI).

Mekelle Engine Production Factory has a production capacity of manufacturing 20,000 engines annually. It produces three types of engines; small, medium and heavy engines used for different purposes including for vehicles, water pumps and power generators. The small engines are for Bajaj, pumps, power generators and walking tractors; medium engines are for buses and trucks, and heavy engines are for construction machinery such as loaders, excavators and graders.

awrasta,

who said I thought this meant much, at all?
never did I say such a thing. just stating my take on the matter.
when i see people like abay tsehaye, sebhat nega, and others, face the same justice; then yes i will giggle and think ''i hit the jackpot.''
call it what you want-but criminals of the former regime, eventually get chased down, i.e. derg officials did years upon years of jail time, and now are released. some were executed. they even tried to kill mengistu several times in harare, but they were eplf members or cadres or just eritreans who lost family to the key shibbir-red terror.

We don't need to fight Gallas. Their modern day Ras Gobana will bury another 5 million for his Amhara masters.

Wait for it. Won't be long when the Abyssinian Galla pursue the OLF cadets and so called Qeero splits between various groups. Right now there's false common enemy and Abiy is rather busy appeasing Amhara.

1 I wasn't talking to you.
2 If you or your friend have an issue, why cry and whine online like women do about other stuff, why not just go fight who you perceive to be your enemy?
3 OLF and ODP already met and made peace, because it's what the oromo masses demanded.
So don't bet on us fighting each other, if you're a man, this goes to all of you here, go fight then.
Anyone can be an internet brave heart, you are the epitome of one, but everyone cannot back up their online speech in real life, you know, offline...

Galla boy first of all you are the one who is a guest and begging here. Somalis only know your folks for begging and you yourself begged here

Secondly, didn't I just say we don't need to kill them, the Gallas will kill themselves for their Amhara masters. We all just need to sit back, relax and wait.

Won't be long before Abiy attacks Daud and Lemma takes side. Qeero breaks down into various tribes, regions and religions.

You just have to leave them alone and stop giving them a common boogeyman.

Bunch of the same nonsense you're repeating, sounding like a broken record.
All I see is, you're going to continue to be an internet warrior, because you lack the heart and skills to back up your words offline.
The very fact that you admit you have to wait for weaknesses to appear among oromo, to beat them, proves my point.

Obbo Waachis

I don't need to dirty my hands on Galla blood. They will soon start killing each others to appease their Amhara lords. History is an excellent teacher.

We will see another 5m disappear all while your folks dig the mass graves from TPLF and Abdi iley. Why I need to kill anyone? Bury those ones first my friend.

True we can no longer give Abiye the benefit of doubt, unless I see a full blown war and destruction of Tigray, there is no evidence to counter the Habeshas secrete agreement to oppress the Cushetics in Ethiopia.

the only thing repeating itself is history my friend, Oromo just got rid of one Habesha master and already they are starting to build a house and decorate it for another Habesha master, didn't Siad Barre destroy Amhara, by form freedom movements for all ethnic groups, why are yo bringing them back, why not rule by yourself at least for 1 term. and then gradually when they are broken and begging for mercy extend a hand of friendship.
