Ethiopia was already engaged with other rebel groups throughout the country especially in Eritrea, when the Somalis invaded, not to mention the internal power struggle within the derg that weakened the government of the country, look at what happened in the first ogaden conflict, a minor but important skirmish in the 60s. Ethiopians repulsed the guerrillas and the Somali army attacks, and then it's Air Force attacked feerfeer.
Ethiopia was a little more stable then, since the movement in Eritrea was still in its infancy.
By 77, 78, the eplf was very powerful and was gaining territory in Eritrea.
OLF was there, also Afar rebels, sidama, tigray, even though some were small rebel armies with some having a few thousand members, it still made the Ethiopian army commit troops there and use resources, so basically it distracted it and weakened it. Ethiopian army had to fight on several fronts by the time the Somalis invaded.
Somalia took advantage and I'm not saying I blame them, but I'm saying it isn't indicative of the Ethiopian militaries true skills had it been ran by an united government, one that isn't in wars already throughout the country and within its self.

Luis,
Yes wslf eventually collapsed, but its activities while it did exist, weakened the Ethiopian army just like the other rebel armies did, by making it deploy troops there and using up resources it desperately needed.
10 ants can weaken a lion even if they attack in an uncoordinated manner.
During the derg, over half the countries gdp and funds were used on the army.

Siad threw us under the bus and had many of our militants jailed.

Pureblood, you do not take into consideration the strategic challenges involved - Importing and transport of arms and supplies is difficult without access to the sea. Neighbouring countries having diplomatic/operational ties with various Ethiopian governments over the years, preventing Oromo mobilisation as there was no safe haven. No Arab world (like Eritreans had) to rally support and supply arms and training. The list goes on. Somalis did not face these challenges, so it's like comparing apples and oranges.

WSLF was inactive in 1991. WSLF played an insignificant role in Derg fall.

Check out this link:

https://tspace.library.utoronto.ca/bits ... thesis.pdf
As for the WLSF, its initial successes (it controlled more lands than the SALF) were eclipsed
partly due to Dergue offensives and partly due to Somali involvement. As it was pounded by the
former (as well as its allies, the SNM), it began crumbling due to its internal problems (see the
third chapter)

Siyad Barre was the best friend Oromos and Tigrays ever had. We taught you fools the game and Meles betrayed us. This why I love Eritrea, they supported us honorably. This why the city of Mekelle must be burnt to the ground for the dishonor of the Mogadishu invasion in 2006.

Luis you're obsessed with 78 man lol, as insignificant as it maybe, it still took troops and resources from an already poor country that was at war mostly elsewhere like in Eritrea, to beat wslf, so, that's the point, that's it.

Waachis, but WSLF and SALF played no role in Derg fall.

Happy New Year, friend.

What do you think about the link?

Waachis is a useless Galla.

Instead of worrying about his people getting bombed by the Amhara Pentecostal pastor Abiy, he wants to flood us with silly propaganda.

We have news for you Galla boy. The Somalis will not attack the Afar. The Afar and Issa can resolve their differences alone.

Our guns are towards the Gallas.

Afar are close relatives. They are predominantly Muslim. They don't have multiple faces like Galla. They don't have millions of hungry beggar populations who need land and food.

Afar are welcome.

Leopard never changes its spots. Surrender after few days skirmishes. I predicted this scenario at the begining, back to 1994.

Oromos are not honorable. Why should we care for you?

That is a misleading headline. It is clear that you know nothing about Oromo people. The Aba Gada are the most respected elders within Oromo society, they are traditional custodians of our history and culture. They have offered to mediate between warring parties. Very different situation to 1992.

Instead of blowing up civilians and committing terrorist acts, you are better off creating strategic alliances to advance your interests in the empire.

You are at least 6% of Ethiopia, but how many members of cabinet are Somali? Fewer than Tigray who are even smaller in population. Some of you even claim Ahmed Shide (by far the most senior Somali cabinet member) isn't really Somali! Wake up to yourselves. You have a very low position in Ethiopia. Wake up, Somalis! If you had any strategic thinking you would ally with other oppressed people of the empire and make meaningful moves.

Folk should refrain from insulting the Oromo.....nothing to be gained from this unbecoming behavior.

However, at this particular jucture Oromo are seen as more foe than friend.

In time this may change.....but right now we have to be ready to hold the line across all Somali territories.

aww agame boy,

you ain't gonna do shit yourself, but remain the keyboard warrior that you are as you try to get Muslims to shed each others blood to somehow, in your dreams, bring back your agame tplf looters to power, hypocrite/liar!-you say afar are mostly muslim, well with all due respect to them, in population, the afran qallo alone have just as much muslims as their total population globally-or close enough-so the oromo muslims, who are about 28 million give or take-outnumber somali population overall-and the afars; you cannot mention Islam in Ethiopia exclude its majority-Muslims of Oromo descent.
