Nobody knows for certain what happened to that evil man haile selassie, but the most popular theory among ethiopians is that he was killed by mengistu and then his remains put under a toilet.
of course mengistu denies any involvement and says haile selassie died of old age; but dictators are known to lie, so it's not surprising that he'd deny any involvement.
but one thing's for sure, at first, mengistu and the derg were popular with their land to the tiller slogans/ideals, and so on.
people were tired of the feudal system and believed that haile selassie was not advancing/modernizing the country fast enough.

Waachis Ethiopia was always feudal Meles changed the old system Oromo benefited from this formula. Axmed abiye inherited this. From Meles. Mengi wasn't bad either he loved equality with in Ethiopia and he was a pan Ethiopianist first and foremost. Mengi raped the real xabasha in tigre territories in meqelle and Christian ereteris.

Yes I know but you cannot be feudal in the modern era and expect to survive for long.
These systems usually always collapse at the hands of the oppressed masses who were exploited and marginalized for too long.
OLF played a big role in making the federalist system we have now, they also played a big role in forming the current constitution
OPDO too, without them, there wouldn't have been a government, there wouldn't been an united ethiopia, and so on and so forth

Mengistu was a true revolutionary. He broke the feudal system, redistributed the land, clamped down on the religious class and helped elevate Ethiopia’s profile.

Abdiwahaab mengi wasnt to bad he hates the amxara nobles that abused power for nearly 2 centuries. He gave allot of land coffee plantation back. I think Meles was also very revolutionary despite being very tigre ethnic orientated ethnic federalism was his idea. Xayle selllasie was different from them all he was for greater Ethiopia.

Khalid Mengistu was a true textbook Marxist who wanted to spread the Marxist gospel to the entire horn. If MSB agreed to the USSR deal to create a treaty of friendship with Mengistu who would have stopped Ethiopia and Somalia

Abdi I think that mengistu had great socialist Marxist lenin ideas for Ethiopia and the region. How ever he was born in a time where the amharas used to rule the main the man was born in 1937. At that particular time it was led by the great of Ethiopia xaylle sellaie tafari. So the man a mixture oforomo and to some extend he had also shewan amxara blood how ever he was a bit dark had happy hair and wider nose. And the xabashis looked down on their peasents. So he suffered from severe inferiority complex based on his looks and his peasent past. The amxaras can be very racist. Because of their looks. They feel they are superior to their subjects during the reign of xaylle sellasie oromo and nilotic and other blacks were forced to sit on their hands and kiss the feet of the Emperor.
